What car do you drive?

I've owned two Escorts and they always did well by me. (Well, the 1998 I had for all of 3 months did well by me until someone blew a red light...)

Whats the problem with yours?

EDIT: I lack a picture of my actual car, but this is it - except in green.

I dunno, the spedometer stopped working and it wouldn't leave first gear. I don't know anything about cars, but the guys at the repair place said that it was a problem with the computer. They swapped a chip and it didn't fix it, so now they think there is something wrong with the transmission, and the potential cost of repairing a car I was never really wild about is getting ridiculous.

I'd like something smaller and, I don't know, cuter. Other than breaking down after nine years, it has given me no trouble. I just think it is kind of ugly, touchy and big. I hate the color SO much!

Hey, my girlfriend had one of those! Actually, it wasn't hers, it was her dad's. Actually, she wasn't my girlfriend, she just lived next door and never closed her curtains.
LOAF, remember what I told you about finishing your stories a sentence earlier? :D

Anyway, here's my car. The picture is terrible. But I've misplaced my camera so I had to take it with my crappy laptop cam.

Are those stripes a factory package, a dealer option, or something you had done after you bought it?

Also: Do you have the plaid seats? Please fucking say yes. Did you test drive the Mazdaspeed3? If so, how does it compare to the GTI?

The stripes came on the car. At first I was gonna take them off cause it's not really my style. But they grew on me eventually, now I can't picture the car without them. The only problem is because of the R on the sidestripes, a lot of people ask me if it's the R32 and I'm like, "Pfft! I wish."

But yes, I have the plaid seats. The ones that have the plaid seats have the nicer rims on it too. At least I think they're nicer. They're the spokier ones. :D

I actually didn't test drive any other cars when I bought the GTI. My last two cars have been Golfs but I always had my heart set on the GTI and was finally able to get it.

Okay, you asked for it...! :p

My everyday car is a '05 Toyota Prius Executive (56 MPG, although that's only one of many reasons why I love it):

Then there's the '03 Toyota Yaris TS with 105 hp (if it was ever sold in the US, it was probably named Echo RS or something like that). Very fun car to drive! :D

Prior to those, I drove a '92 Toyota Corolla with 114 hp. I still own the car - with over 205,000 miles and a lot of extras built in, I wouldn't want to sell it. Besides: Black is beautiful! :p

But there's more: I'm a great Mustang fan, too, so here you go:

'05 Ford Mustang GT. 18 MPG, but you gotta have some fun, too! :p (At least on your bachelor party.)

And, of course, the real classic: A '67 Ford Mustang Convertible! This one was my wedding car. (He survived that day, but we'll have to disassemble him again for some more repairs before he's really good to go.)

Last, but not least: My Plymouth Barracuda and Dodge Charger. These are just in HO scale, though, so I guess they don't really count... :p

That 56MPG, is that actual recorded mileage you've achieved driving yourself? It's pretty high. What was the fuel mileage rating on the window sticker? I think until this year the EPA was really over-estimating the fuel efficiency of cars like the Prius and folks were seeing something like 20MPG less than advertised.

What's that red badge on the back of your Corolla say?

I know you said those toy cars are HO scale but are they both really? The Barracuda looks a lot larger than the Charger.

Your '67 Mustang is pretty cool, I like how you haven't modified it to fuck and gone for that idiotic "G-Machine" look with fancy new alloys and shit like that. Is it a 6-cylinder? The wheel covers make me think so. There's not enough straight sixes sold anymore, and people really loved and love that Ford 6.

The '05, though... oh boy do I hate the current generation Mustangs. They are just the worst collection of foul styling mistakes a person could buy today. The upcoming Camaro is so much more appealing to me. Good job on the GT, though, the modular V8 is a fantastic engine.

Do you own all of these right now, or have some replaced others?

1998 C43 AMG - kerb weight: 1570kg, power: 225kW, torque: 410Nm

p.s. gotta love the Prius. Over 400Nm of torque combined from standstill

Mine only puts the 200-odd crank HP (guesstimate of about 170-ish where the rubber meets the road, so to speak) to the front wheels... :(

56 MPG is my actual current mileage - in summer. In winter, it drops to about 49 MPG. (My worst mileage was around 40 MPG, but that was pushing the pedal to the metal for almost eight hours straight.)
I think the Prius is advertised with a mileage of 54 or 55 MPG - most people can do 43 MPG without changing their driving style. (And some can do 65 MPG in a stock Prius, but I doubt they're having any fun.)

What's that red badge on the back of your Corolla say?
The red badge reads "Si" - which doesn't translate into anything, AFAIK. On any other car you'd probably just read "GT" or "GTI" instead. ;)

I know you said those toy cars are HO scale but are they both really? The Barracuda looks a lot larger than the Charger.
No, they're actually the same size. It's probably just the perspective... I can post some more pictures if anyone dares to open a HO racer thread. :p

Yep, it's a 6. And yes, we tried to keep it as true to the original as possible. We'll probably go for some modern speakers, but nothing too fancy. No DVD, woofer, low-rider or other - sorry - shit. ;)

The GT is nice, but it's also the one car from the list that I don't own - we just rented it for my bachelor party. I would have liked to keep it, but as far as our family planning goes, I don't really see a GT. Can't have everything... ;)

All through the front wheels, to give you that authentic sport handling.
:D Yeah, let's face it: The Prius is definitely no sportscar. And the 478 Nm sure don't feel like 478 Nm in "ordinary" cars... It's much less under-powered than most people think, though, and gliding on the road without hearing any engine is an amazing thing. (At least it is for me.)

Does your Prius have that feature on it when you go in reverse that little camera turns on and you get this wide angle view of what's behind you?

My girlfriend's dad just got a Prius and he was showing that to me. I thought it was kind of silly but cool at the same time.

It's about time they integrated a backup camera into those. It's a running joke with my friends and I how about 6 out of 10 Prius' you see on the road seem to have dinged up rear bumpers :).

Speaking of 'Cudas, where is Jaeger with pictures of his badass ride?

And speaking of Chargers, I was a passenger in this '68 when my buddy decided to wrap it around an oak tree back in 1993. He bought it at that time for about $3,500. It would be worth 10 times that much today if he hadn't destroyed it playing 'Dukes of Hazzard'! Interestingly, I'm only alive to bother you all today because I was NOT wearing a seatbelt. If I had been, it would have held me there to be crushed instead of the impact throwing me to the other side of the car. Still broke my wrist, shoulder, and left ankle in 7 places though :D. That, and it was a heavy piece of Detroit steel, If I had been in a Prius, or even my old fiberglass 'Vette, that would have been the end. Seatbelts kill!

That's exactly the reason the Prius is my favourite rental car within NZ - the near-silence and the big windows add value to my sightseeing experiences. It's usually quicker than the average 2.0L car from a standstill, but starts to show the lack of power when accelerating on a highway on-ramp. I shall make no comments on handling and cornering, however ;)

Does your car have the "EV" button near the ignition key slot? I've heard that availability of that feature may be market-dependent.

A silent-moving car that has poor handling abilities? That spells doom for bike-riders worldwide :D.
