I'm also thinking it's going to make more sense to just make SWC its own mission category because otherwise the WC1 mission articles are going to get too bloated.
I'm not sure i see - other than swc and the odd idiosynchronicity with gameplay swc is the same. - i only think the timings of sm1,5 and 2 overlap due to loafs timeline assuming swc ralgha is wc ralgha - despite the different rank etc. I say we assume it's another ralgha and slot sm1.5 into the gap between 1 and 2

as far as the flow chart goes - ignoring the issues with swc and swc-sm1 (you can fail goddard, border zone and retreat in that order and then the game simply starts sm1.5 - no cutscene or anything) sm1.5 has no failing track, in fact the only way (outside of dying) i've found is to eject on the final mission - which just leads to a game over screen - again no cutscene. You can't simply hit the navs and return to land on the claw.

the comment about the mission was simply highlighting that the USG has failings too :) I've mentioned before the firekka 1 problem with games and strategy guides all disagreeing on which craft are flown by drakhai!

I'm a bit rusty but if I remember correctly the Drakhai are just highly trained pilots. (Aces, Top Gun whatever) They can pilot various ships. Not just one type.

Aha, thats not what i mean - i've marked this on the firekka 1 discussion page but its worth discussing here too:

in pc version
nav 1 - 4 dralthi
nav 2 - 4 salthi (two wings of two, one attack you, the other the exeter)
between nav2 and the tigers claw - 3 gratha and 1 ralari appear - note that a drakhai is flying one of the gratha
second wave of 4 krant then appear - note that a drakhai is flying one of the krant.

mark minasi's secrets says that:
nav 1 4 dralthi
nav 2 4 salthi
between nav2 and the TC - 3 gratha and a ralari (the map says that the gratha are all drakhai but he explains that one one is)
second wave 2 krant (here the map says neither are drakhai but he explains in the text that one is!

the ultimate strategy guide however says:
nav 1 4 dralthi
nav 2 4 dralthi in two wings of two
between nav 2 and TC - 2 drakhai in gratha
second wave 2 krant, 2 gratha and a ralari

The point here is important - the order of the encounter changes and the number of drakhai and craft they are flying also changes

Ah I fallow you now. I do know that there are various errors in the USG but I have not looked at Minasi's enough to know if it had any errors.

But the game trumps the guides and that's why wonderful people like you are taking their time to play through the games to make sure it's right.

Kudos!

actually i picked that one up while playing with the wcsav mission editor - it tells you who the ships will target, pilots etc - very useful in this case!

I was thinking of in terms of different conversations etc. We could link them into the main articles, I just don't want the main ones getting weighted down with too much stuff going on.

Now that's pretty cool. That would be neat to play with if I ever find time to.

I'm not sure that the conversations change enough to justify it - at some point i'll run through and check them but not today :D

Long Live the Confederation!
Remember that Super Wing Commander isn't identical to Wing Commander I--the cutscenes are different and there are a number of changes to the dialogue (especially to introduce the idea of stealth fighters at various points in the original game).

The idea that "SM1.5" should overlap with Secret Missions 2 comes from the fact that they share a number of events--the retreat from Vega Prime, Bossman's death and so forth. I will include some notes below, but we should probably sit down and roll up all the 'Firekka' stories together properly with available time references.

I think the ideal thing is to largely ignore 'Ralgha'--we don't have the ability to say whether he's the same character or not so lets just leave it. As noted below, you have to get the Dralthi significantly before the Ras Nik'har arrives to match up everything else... so it's either our Ralgha delivering a Dralthi earlier for this secret operation or it's some crazy situation where it's another character entirely (which I'll stand up and say I don't like--it's not the intent and it's one of those beyond-possible coincidences... note, also, that he's called 'captain' later in the SM1.5 script as well).

Tartarus Series
Mission 1 - Alpha Strike
Mission 2 - Sigma Defend
Notes: Parallel to Firekka 2--Shotglass "just heard the news from Major Chapman on the Austin" about Vega Prime before both missions; this is the "Ralgha" mission.

Cairo Series
Mission 3 - Epsilon Escort
Mission 4 - Sigma Patrol
Notes: Parallel to Firekka 4; Spirit has never truly hated the Kilrathi until now.
Mission 5 - Omega Patrol
Notes: Parallel to Firekka 5; Bossman dies during this mission; Paladin retires 'next week' (three weeks after Firekka 3?).

Anchorage Series
Mission 6 - Sigma Patrol
Notes: Per Angel, one day after Bossman dies.
Mission 7 - Alpha Escort
Notes: Parallel to Firekka 6; they "finally" let Maniac out of sickbay and Angel is writing to Bossman's wife.
Mission 8 - Gamma Defend

Jakarta Series
Mission 9 - Sigma Rendezvous
Mission 10 - Iota Strike
Notes: This is parallel to Corsair 2--Spirit just saw a Kilrathi for the first time (Ralgha speaking to Halcyon).
Mission 11 - Xi Strike
Mission 12 - Delta Strike

Hmm, didnt realise that the swc script was different earlier too. Obviously the stealth fighters are mentioned during the sm1.5 (we're told that the same starpost that is developing stealth fighters developed the sivar)

My issue with sm2 and 1.5 being parallel, is that it forces the claw to be in two places at the same time. I guess however that we end up with that situation happening in (eg) dakota and port hedland.

On an unrelated note, it only happens a few times, but the script does call the character by the name armstrong several times - i've named the player christopher blair throughout the script in the 'pedia but, especially at the end of jakarta (final ending) we get something like this:

Male Rapier
Lt. Armstrong, this is Zeta 3, are you all right? Over.
Christopher Blair
Uh, yeah, I'm fine, over.

Connected to that - i've put in the script for the dream sequences you get if the other pilots are dead - there doesnt seem to be one for jazz and doomsday (although while working through to kill them all i shot down paladin twice, once where he talked as jazz, maniac once to get doomsdays funeral etc), this might be a bug though, will check in the 3do version presently! (movie player :D)

Anyway, my question there is, do we want the dream sequence stuff in, for the most part it's not a problem, possibly except for Angel who voices her love.
I'd prefer it in as while it's not canon in the "everyones alive" sense, it is in that it's in the game and doesnt break anything too bad!

Finally, the kilrathi starpost isnt listed under kilrathi ships - maybe obvious but it's not as easy to find under bases and installations!

Humm. I never new about any dream sequences. I would love to read them. Bossman's would be appropriate. The rest maybe in another section.

SM1.2 and SM2 can fit together. There are enough gapes in the dates from the WC Bible.

Rank is another tricky issue. It's possible to reach Lieutenant Colonel by the end of SM1, but again, as it's a player-dependent thing, I'm not sure if we can really say if he was one rank or another. Unless there's another source in the literature that states he was a particular rank?
