WCIII and IV question

Saturnyne

Vice Admiral
Does morale affect more than the other pilots' obedience? Does it help them fly a little bit better? Also, if you come across and conversation you can make a choice in, and are in a position to re-enter it, could you keep increasing/decreasing morale over and over and over?

as far as i recall, in WCIII & WCIV there are two types of morale, ship morale and individual pilot morale, choices you make in the game increase and decrease each, for example if you punch paladin ship morale goes up, whereas if you "score points with the admiral" it goes down, I would suspect that this would change the performance of generic pilots, gunners etc. for flying ability, accuracy etc. pilot morale seems to affect just one main plot pilots performance at a time, and if a pilot has a low morale he fights worse and some of his/her comms are changed.
morale can also affect endings and certain in game choices, for example if flint has a low moral, (eg you ground her etc) she may be unavailable as a love option in the bar scene.
If, in WCIV, you side with hawk more than panther and win the game, you get the "evil" ending with Blair as an admiral rather than the "good" ending with Blair as an instructor.

is there morale in WCP though?

You don't get similar choices in WCP. there is a case with Dallas near the end of disc 1 where if you don't talk to him, he'll storm by you after a mission briefing.

Morale in WCP? Dallas? It doesn't matter with Dallas much because he dies anyway...Just fly the mission with smart toggle off and keep a lock on Dallas and wait for his ship to break up for no apparent reason.

I don't think that morale ever made a difference with obedience in Wc3 and Wc4. I thought it was just flying ability. I mean, no until the run to Kilrah will Maniac and Flash obey you.

I tried the agree with hawk line and ended up as an instructor. There more to finding the other ending?

Did you decide to use the Flashpack on the Ella super base? I think that is one of the major choices that gives you the "bad" win ending.

Ella is one of the three "major" decisions affecting the outcome, major in that it pits Hawk against Panther directly -- one's morale is lowered the other raised as a result of your one decision. (Yes, WCP does indeed have morale ratings.) The other two "major" decisions are Circe/Speradon, and "We die trying"/"There's always hope".

However, any decision involving either of the characters has a bearing, in that it still affects their morale rating. Whoever's morale is higher at the end, that's whose ending your get.

The idea that Ella alone determines the ending comes up every so often, but is totally incorrect.

It's possible to pick one way for two of the "major" decisions and still get the other's ending, depending on your other "minor" choices. However, picking all three "majors" in support of one of the characters pretty much guarantees you the corresponding ending.

Not only do the three "major" choices affect their morale, but so does wingman selection. Generally speaking, pilots' morale rises a bit whenever you pick them for a mission. Flying with Panther on your wing most of the time will boost her morale--the same applies to Hawk. I never fly with Catscratch on my wing if I can help it though--somehow he seems to get gunned down way too quickly on a mission. I tend to go with Maniac whenever I need someone to keep the fighters busy (like in the 'sneak past Ella' mission or the one in Orestes where you have to shoot down cap missiles), and Panther, Hawk, or Primate most of the rest of the time.

Dose Dekker or Maniacs performance change if you stick up for one of them in the Galley? I only noticed different comms for Dekker but not maniac.

If you stick up for either one, they take their sweet time clearing enemies/taking over the base in one of the missions.

It's been a while for me, though....

Whether you choose to side with Dekker or Maniac, the other one will perform poorly on the next mission. Dekker will send you a message saying that he is taking his sweet time (while you have to fight through another wing of enemy fighters), and Maniac will take longer to make each kill, and he will eject prematurely. Maniac doesn't seem to have any special comm messages for it though.

I thought that maniac said something about how he was going to fly the mission nice and safe and by the book "just for you colonel"

no, but the next time you pick him he will go off on one about "sticking together, by the book, nice and safe...blah, blah"
up until a certain point in the game (the scramble when the vesuvius attacks i think)
