Wing Commander CIC

hi all, i was just wondering if it is ever possible to carry on with confed after the border worlds attack the lexington? ALso there is a part in the manual on the front cover where "miner" appears to be going down, does this indicate you can stay on with confed for longer?

Also i have a problem wiv my wing commander prophecy game, apparently it works fine on xp, but the movie parts of the game always skip.
