WC4 Can't Save Game

I have the DVD from GoG, and it runs fine in compatibility mode, etc. I cannot save the game. When I hit save game, it just hangs for as long as I wait, until I press ESC, then it cancels the process. Does anyone know what to do to fix this?

Also, small problem, but Alt+Enter doesn't full screen and I can't alt-tab out of it properly. If anyone knows about that, that's also useful :D
 
Did you click on a save slot first and then hit the blue save button? At that point, after hitting save, is it waiting for you to type the name of your save game?

Instead of hitting escape, does hitting enter also "unfreeze" it and then leave you with a blank named save slot?
 
Well there we go. Been so long I didn't even think about it. Once you type anything the proper 'enter your save name' info comes on and enter saves. Thanks for reminding me :)
