WC IV Hi-Res cutscenes... bad crops

St_Eddie

As per the title, I have copied the hi-res videos over to my 'vob' folder, but they are cropped poorly. It seems as though at least 50 pixels upper and lower are missing.

Does anyone have a suggestion?

Do you mean the files themselves are cropped? or That the game is cutting off parts of them?

Depending on the aspect ratio of your monitor the "Cropped" part might be normal if your monitor aspect ratio is something like 16:10

The original aspect ratio varies, so at 16;9 sometimes you’d have no borders,
sometimes some. I believe ODVS for the HD pack opted to go for 16:9 regardless which can mean dropping a few pixels at the left and right, I believe the intro is the worst offender.

I have a 16:9 monitor and during the intro, the bottom and top of the FMV's appear to be cut off (for example, people's names in the credits only show half the text when said text is positioned towards the lower part of the screen).

Are you sure you have a 16:9 monitor? I have a replacement dll for WCIV somewhere because the GoG version doesn't support ultrawide - with aspect rations > 16:9 I get the same issue you describe.

Yeah this sounds like improper cropping. Possibly go to the EXE file for the game, right click and choose properties from the pop up menu. Then, navigate to the compatibility tab and chose the "change high DPI settings" button. From the second window click the "overide high dpi scaling behavior option and then make sure it's set to "application". That may or may not fix it but you can experiment with those settings and see if they give you better results

Thank you for the suggestion. I tried this, but to no avail :(

I'm pretty sure that I have a 16:9 monitor. None the less, would you be able to provide this replacement dll, so that I may test it? Thank you.

Sorry... one more note of interest; the cutscenes are actually playing vertically stretched! For example, the opening Origin logo's first letter is an '0', as opposed to the 'O' it ought to be (i.e. it's an oval shape, as opposed to a circular shape).

Also, I think that there are supposed to be black bars at the top and bottom of FMV scenes? Not so on my settings. For example, the dialogue options ("This pisses me off") appear over the video itself.

Any further help with this problem would be greatly appreciated. It, well... pisses me off ;P

My goodness, it works! Thank you so much! Perhaps my monitor is 16:10? That's news to me because I've always set ALL of my games for a 16:9 setting. I think that I may have to go back and alter many-a-setting for my games XD

The credits are no longer cropped off, the 'O' in Origin is circular and Mark Hamill doesn't look like part-man, part-beanpole anymore!

Thank you, my friend!

Glad it worked for you, I asked the CIC about getting GoG to push the fix to their install but they seemed to think GoG wouldn’t be interested.
Maybe if WC4 gets added to the preservation program.
