WC:CD Carrier, Transport?

well while breezing around the huge amount of models that there are I've decided to use a model that really not too many people have seen unless you've played either WC Armada or Super Wing Commander. I'm not really sure if I want to use this as some sort of carrier but maybe escort carrier, transport, cruiser, support ship of sorts, I'm not really too sure what I would like to use it for yet. As you can see so far I've only really made it a little wider and changed the color of the textures but this gives you an idea on the basic overall shape. And I'll keep updates to whatever changes I make to it....I know this was used as the Tiger's Claw in SWC, and it was a carrier but I'm not really sure what I should use this type of model as... Anyways pictures below of the Carrier and you can see it's been widened a bit and also lengthened. These are test renders and I'm not going to put this one into Vision engine until ALL changes are done.

EDIT: Wow where can I buy one of these for my personal fleet. It's really the last thing I need before I can take over this sector of the Sol system.

haha Well I actually bought mine of this silly guy in the Landreich only cost 4,000,000 credits wasn't a bad deal :)

Ok well those first 2 Renders are actually a super high poly model.....which will not work in the Vision engine.....so I've decided to start from the basics but you can so the progress I've gotten through so far... I've actually decided to make this into a Destroyer..... by putting some large guns up top on the larger type platforms...and also beefing the armament up a lil bit. I was actually inspired a little bit by the Iowa Class battleships...,Plunkett class cruiser, and also a little bit of the front end inspired by the Concordia, but the original model came straight from WC:Armada had to rip that puppy right outta there...Of coarse only a generic textures that are applied at the moment but I'll go through and make it so that the textures that you see in render 1 and 2 will be similar if not the same. This will be used in the WC:CD Mod. but I will not put this in the vision engine until every single change is going to be made. So far it's at about 1000 polies so there is room for a little bit more....any ideas would be greatly appreciated here are 4 renders of the new design and you can see many of the design cues also a little wider and shorter. Again any comments questions concerns, design ideas, please by all means send me a messege I'd gladly discuss whatever provisions that you think should be made.

It will work. Now you need to get it setup so you can play online! I'd love to play someone besides Chris because he's really good and I'm tired of getting steamrolled.

I have to get that all set up as well. I used to play split screens back in the day, but haven't figured out the online component now.

Actually Armada was one of my most favorite games to play. For some reason or another I can't get my comp to run right with it anymore (Discs are pooped) but the gameplay was fun especially cuz it was almost like a space Red Alert of sorts....You built up your forces to pummel the other guys that's what really made it fun....but I never had luck when if there was a battle and if you didn't fly the mission yourself my forces would always get pounded.....I hated that but it did make you play the game more which was very clever

Alright well I worked on it a bit more....Added those large turrets that you see on the Plunkett Class Cruiser. The textures are going to be the same ones as are on the Plunkett so they will not be the textures that you see in this render. Also I plan on putting many of the smaller turrets that are Tachyons on the spots where you see block protrusions on the fuselage. And I also included a render of the size of the mining base to the size of the destroyer so that you may see a size comparison. Again any changes that can be made make them noted to me so that I may do changes. I'll probably be working on this one for some time. I've also been working on the Indomitable class battlecruiser but I'm too embarressed so far to show any progress :) ....Again these are only renders at the moment.

Before you put those gigantic turrets on top the hull looked a lot like a ship from Homeworld.

Interesting I've never played Homeworld. Is it similar to Wing commander? or just a whole different ballgame

The WC Mod for Homeworld is beautiful and fun, though incomplete I believe.

There is one for Homeworld 2 - though I don't play Homeworld 2, it was somewhat of a disappointment after the first game.

little bit better Also I hadn't realized this yet but. Because There's also the bridge component the engine component and also turrets are there own component I can basically add a whoooole lotta stuff to this thing but I'll get to that in a bit definately.....but just a lil tid bid on what's goin where. I added an Engine Intake. Below the bridge. Questions comments and concerns.

I think the turrets look a little *too* big. Like most of the interior of this ship would need to be huge reactors and capacitors to power those freaknormous guns. Ship design ends up looking a lot more like HMS Rodney than USS Iowa, given the turret placement.

Just an opinion.

The only response on the turret size issue is....Think of the Plunkett Class Cruiser I'm actually going to use the same size turrets the large ones that are on there which I used the shapes from those. But it will give you more of an idea of the size of the destroyer. It would be roughly 1/2 the size of the Plunkett, but with a little more mass. I think the game called them "Heavy Particle Cannons" that are put to use on the Plunkett. I was looking to use large guns on the Destroyer. I'll give it a pretty good cruising speed also, possibly faster than the Cerberus. Reason being.. Is that it's smaller also than the Cerberus. Your right though the gun placement is more like the HMS Rodney. I mean I haven't put on the smaller turrets also, either. But we'll see. There's still much info & detail that is needed. All the turrets, the Engines, the Bridge, and a shield generator of some sort all gets placed within the game seperate from the actual fuselage model. Plus destroyed textures etc... would need be done also.....So it's just moving along for the time being tho. Which without a doubt will take place over the coarse of the next few weeks.
