Venture class EW-corvette

Ladies and Gentlemen, I give you the .....<drumroll>....Venture class EW corvette!

This ship class will be actually very important in WC Saga. This design is based on the description in the novel False Colors where it is stated that the Confederation uses modified corvettes as electronic warfare craft.

Fleet Tactics said:
As the war went into the late 2660s, BuShips authorized an upgrade of all existing Venture-class corvettes. Even though the new upgrades look similar to the first model Ventures, they are a totally different ship from the insides. Internal modifications include a larger tonnage displacement due to the enhanced power plant, electronics, sensors, and life support systems. Weapon modifications include the removal of the two single-mount neutron guns and the installation of a bottom laser turret and two multi-purpose missile tubes which can fire any type of anti-fighter missile in the Confed inventory. Even though Venture II-class corvettes can be configured to any shape and form, there are two configurations that are most popular besides the stock model: electronic warfare corvette and assault corvette.

The first configuration serves as a dedicated electronic warfare craft. Crammed with electronics gear and electronic countermeasure systems, they can pinpoint and destroy enemy targets by detecting energy outputs, or, when deemed advisable, knock out defending sensors or communications channels. Extra equipment include multiple flare, chaff, and decoy dispensers. Such equipment proves very useful when escorting strike fleets or defending a task force, as the decoys and the jammers will help throw off enemy tracking systems and divert Kilrathi-launched missiles and torpedoes.

The second configuration serves as an assault guerilla raider. The original torpedo loadout has been taken out and replaced by a missile battery that holds up to eight strategic CapShip missiles. These missiles can be used against warship, installation, and planetary targets alike, and is best employed in hit-and-run skirmishes. This modified corvette variant is mostly used by Recon-in-Force groups.

Credits go to Eder for creating the ships model, Starman for model adjustments and Lynx for texturing/minor fixes

[whine] why are our corvettes such pushovers compared to theirs!? [/whine]

Dynamite model. I like the EW biz too. Boffo guys, just boffo.

Wow, this one came out of nowhere. Wasn't expecting it at all; good job. Looks great!

Can we get some size comparison, though?

excellent work, the only thing that bothers me is the really dark grey wings. just, doesn't flow well with the rest of the ship. otherwise, top notch!

Just to mention concerning the news entry for the Venture EW craft: The Freespace engine isn't dark, it just seems to be because Tolwyn always turns of ambient light when taking screenshots. :p

And the dark textures don't really mattersince their ingame darkness is controlled by shine maps - so even wehn it's halfway in the shadows there's some metallic shinyness on it - like the real thing.

Ah, good. I was going to post something similar. :) It's up to the player to set the ambient light to his personal pleasure. If you want it more dark, to take better visual of the shine- and glowmaps, you can set it to your liking.

Personally I like it more the bright way. Also it is very important, where the suns in the mission stands. Just saying the engine is dark, is simply false ;)

lol, I was going to post the same, it always depends on the angle of the shot. And of course you can increase the amount of ambient lightning. What are you settings, Starman? 120?

Maybe you could post your screenshots so that everyone can see the difference? Or I will do it myself... someday

Uhm, Tolwyn, what's with the distortion around the text and some of the HUD graphics? Is that just the compression of the JPEG file?

What do you mean, the text centered above the targeting-recytacle with the dark-square arount it ? These are Onboard-Computer-Messages written on your HUD.

The other text-lines on top are only subtitles for the voices. (I really suggest disabling subtitles when playing the game). There will be to much to read, and you will have no time for that. Everything is voice-acted, so no need for subtitles at all :)

I have not captured those shots, so I can not tell you whenever it is just JPEG compression, or it is the known problem with text dissortion on some Nvidia cards

Getting a 1024x768 shot to be less than 100k so you can post it on the board involves some narsty compression. I vote jpeg artifacting. I mean I guess. Who knows.

Shot looks good though!
