I'm behind a uni firewall at the moment and when I went home at the weekend I got litterally flooded with people asking me "hows UE"?

Well I can't update the website from here, only Quarto but I thought you guys might like a little update and refresher on the progress...

Missions 0-7: We have plans to put these into beta testing VERY shortly, along with the first few cutscenes, right now Mission 3 needs to be tested (it *should* work but its so long I finished coding it but never did a final test), 7 needs some mild updates and multiple missions have the same landing issue which we now know how to fix apparently..

Mission 8: This was close to completion but then Pete lost the mor recent code which put this mission back a bit

Missions 9&10: Both done but not tested properly yet.

Simulator missions: Been on a backburner, theres 3 or 4 finished, we may or may not do more before the initial release, however we will eventually have 8.

Cutscenes: 2 finished, 1 undergoing major revisions and 1 unstarted

FMV sequences: 1 completed, other in very early stages of production

Voice overs: Still awaiting a fair few, I finally finished mine upto mission 7 although personally I feel some may need redoing, this is probably what will hold us up the most.

Music: Will not delay release because we would probably make an initial release with or without but minaly because our composer is doing a great job and hes already got a hefty number of pieces done too.

Fiction & Viewer: Finished done, wrapped up and has been for a while now :)

In other words we're here, we're all very busy BUT UE looks proffesional at this point, its just unfinished, we could probably release at this point with only a day or twos work but we know you want everything and you want it the best it can be so give us some time, not too much though, we don't want to get too relaxed :D
Quarto has the most work to do, mainly because hes got the most talents and skills (which btw also means hes constantly in demand from other projects) but hes got some time now so things will pick up and I'm certain if I get some free time things will get redelegated so I'll end up with more to be doing (just not a cutscene I can guarantee you that, I don't have the artistic blood I guess)

Well, keep up the good work, gents. I'm looking forward to it.

Those main missions, they're played as usual, I take it? Enter briefing room and get rocking?

Yep, new briefing room ofcourse but yeah, the whole thing plays as you'd expect.

Enter the briefing room, get a mission briefing, launch :D The FMV is divX so don't worry too much about space. The main game is 11+ missions (the + being for the branches, 11 in any one successful game tho)

How large are we looking at for the size of the UE download? Any chance the DL can be made in 'chunks', similar to the original SO release (IIRC)?

Well let me think about this... I'd say no more than 45MB, and yeah, I'm sure we could arrange multiple files if theres enough demand, and ofcourse thanks to the nature of SO voice overs are optional, if it doesn't find them all you get are subtitles so that pack could be an option, I think the same is true for FMV although I'd strongly recommend anyone with a modem better than 28k get the whole lot :D

Predro did u use my kilrathi Voice Overs????, I really want to know that cause someone of you team send me a mail telling me that, but I don't see mi name on the staff, well to tell the Tru I really like to appear on the credits for making the kilrathi Voice over, and I really want to help other project doing voices.

Yeah we'll be using your Kilrathi voice overs, did Quarto ask for improvments or something then?

Anyway the staff page is huge already, voice overs don't get a mention there this time round, however your name will be in the credits of the game when its released :)

Yes, we are using your voiceovers. As I mentioned in the reply to your e-mail though, I'm going to make a separate credits page for voiceovers at some point (to save space on the staff page). This isn't likely to happen any time soon though, since there are more important UE-related things to do ;).

I am curious... how are you managing Kilrathi voices? I can't remember which Kilrathi voice Paladin does in WC3 (if at all), but listening carefully to either Thrakhath, Melek or Hobbes, I could definitely hear a familiar voice underneath all the electronic manipulation. Almost as if several copies of the same voice were modified, each in a different way, and layered over each other, slightly offset.

I'm not sure what 15th Rampage did to the voiceovers he sent us, but I did in fact further modify them using the method you just mentioned - distort them in different ways and then layer them on top of each other. However, the end result is nothing compared to the WC3 voiceovers... what can I say, they were done by professionals :p.
