Torps?

Thats what I thought - but I'm having one of those days where I'm being proven wrong left and right, so I gave the most general, noncommited answer possible.

I just imagined a sling with a torpedo in it instead of a rock. Goliath would've had a nasty surprise.

I think Goliath got a nasty surprise anyway. He got the shit knocked out of him by a little boy with a sling and five smooth stones. Then he got his head cut off with his own sword, and his body fed to beasts and birds.

Little known fact: The Bible clearly says that David collected five smooth stones from a river. Most people assume that David was bringing more in case he didn't kill Goliath with the first one. It turns out that Goliath had four brothers . . .

Ha ha. The point is that David wasn't alone in killing Goliath. But before this thread goes off into an unpleasant tangent, I'll try to steer it back on track.

How many other fighters do we know have been modified to carry torpedoes? The WC2 Manual states that just about any fighter can theoretically be modified to carry them. I know the Epee was mentioned by Angel in the Tesla system (WC2), and LOAF's mentioned the Hellcat. Are there any other instances?

The Epee and the Sabre carry them, as do the Broadsword - all three have the hardpoints, or at least the ability to mount a hardpoint for a torpedo. The Morningstar's also torp-capable, IIRC, as is the Crossbow for obvious reasons. Mounting a torp on an Epee means you've turned a nimble-if-very-lightly-armored fighter into a sluggish-but-still-very-lightly-armored fighter; you'd be better off trying to ram a target with the torp underslung than try to hold still for the target lock. :D

Hellcats, at least in theory (WC4N) can be modified to carry torps, though that'd make them sluggish too, due to the extra mass that you're adding to the accel/decel profile. Mostly we see them on heavy fighters and bombers, if only because they've got the engine power to deliver that sort of ordinance already, and the defenses to survive the torpedo run.

Well, I meant fighters which we don't see carrying torpedoes within the games. So fighters other than the Sabre, dedicated bombers, etc.

I killed Bhurak Starkiller with a frontal dumbfire...

I killed Khajja the fang with a frontal dumbfire...

I killed Kur human killer with a frontal dumbfire...

Don't mess with me and my Dumbfires (And my Scimitar too)

Hey, the "I HATE DUMBFIRES" guy has an anti-matter universe equivalent.

You two should slug it out.

Somewhere else.

I killed Dumb Sylvester with a fire... ops.
Hey, it's like we're in Bizarro world. Only it's not funny.

In WCP I think I used the rocket pods more than DFs, they seemed to be quicker hitting, although much less potent...

I hated torpedo missions in WC2, my manual says that flak guns only have a range of like 4k, but they always started shooting at like8k. It wasn't to bad with starbases and even the slower fralthra, but Ralathra always closed the distance between when you can lock and when they can shoot with thier Flak cannons and AMGs. In a Broadsword I was usually alright, but a Saber.............boooom.

Hmmmmm......DF and light torp.....about the same in my opinion....'cept one is a little smaller and unguided, little lighter too.

Well, IMO most heavy fighters should be able to carry at least one, if not two, torps with the obvious but small decrease in speed--if several missile hardpts are replaced of course. Just about any large fighter should be able to carry a torp if its hardpts are replaced. This would also mean a whole new variant as well. All needs on how long it takes and how hard it is to replace a medium/missile hardpt with a heavy/torp hardpt.

Eh, if every ship could carry a torpedo (or more) it would kinda decrease some of the fun (unless it were a BW situation where they *had* no bombers). I always like the distinct role differences between bombers and escorts.

I can agree with heavy fighters, they should be able to mount atleast a light torpedo, while losing several missile mounts and fairly significant changes in speed and handling.

Dedicated bombers however I like more, I don't like the idea of uberfighters that can be their own escorting/ship-busting/Anti-whatever fighter. Multirole is ok to a point, but as long as it has its place and is not a uberfighter.
