Is it just me, or does every Wing Commander game, as cool as they are, completely fail when it comes to insults? Having not played WC1, i'd rate the insults from WC2 as the worst, with Privateer as a close second. The Kilrathi insults from WC2 were particularly dismal. The insults from Monkey Island were a lot funnier, too. I always liked to change mine in WC2 to "I'm gonna hickory-smoke you!"
 
No see you got ti all wrong ug y. Privater had the bst come back lines like when Burrows says to Masterson, "hell you better name an entire wing after me. "" That was so funny. oh god i'm drunk
 
I liked the whole idea of taunts right from the start; but unfortunately it never really lived up to my expectations - basically you always had a couple of lines to choose from, always with the same result - counter taunt, counter attack. I would have expected some development - like using a taunt effectively would give you new options to insult and infuriate your opponent even more.
But heck, it's fun the way it is. The WCP ones strike me a bit lame, because they're either preposterous (especially the Nephilim ones) or just stupid.
I can only guess that in the early releases, someone came up with the idea that it might be bad to teach 10-year-old swearwords and battlecries (not that they wouldn't know enough); but still got bad press - so the imaginative creations à la Privateer developed more into the "Die, bug!"-level...
Well, but still anything a Retro says cracks me up.. :D
 
I've also noticed that the Kilrathi have like, 2 comebacks in WC3, it get's really repetitive having "You pathetic decentdants of monkeys!" said at every Nav point.
 
Actually I thought the "got any doughnuts, pig?" insult was pretty darn funny. Nice to think that cops haven't changed 600 years into the future. The Wing Commander Prophecy insults were all pretty lame, but then again I didn't use the taunt option very much in any of the games, I was too busy with flying my ship to worry about boasting over the comm. I liked the fact in Privateer you could say moronic things like "Greetings and Salutations" of course, it never provoked a response.
 
Taunting is not just "boasting over the comm". It has an effect, in priv taunts are VERY important, and in some of the other games, they may help you save some ship you're escorting.

BTW, there were many different Kat taunts in WC3, but there was something wrong with the game... the endless repetition of "YOU PATHETIC DESCEDANT OF MONKEYS" is probably a bug.
 
WC4 had some great taunts. "Better put in for your pension!" and the occasional "Can't fly? Must die" from maniac was a funny throwback to taunting Flash in WC3.
 
If you keep taunting the Kilrathi in a row in WC3, they'll start saying something else.

Like, "I'll eat your heart and spit it out, Terran!" or something like that.
 
I liked Stilleto in WCP. Her contempful: Don't mess with me...little insect! Was wonderful.
Maniac's "Time for a little bug funeral" is a close second.
 
Typical Retro taunt: "Die, by the very weapons you a-"*KABOOM!*
Me: "The weapons I adore won't even fit on your ship there, Sparky..."

Anyways, Maestro had some pretty decent little taunts. Quirky ones like, "Hey, pick on someone...uh, nevermind."

I never heard that Taunt when I had Amazon as wingman, but a lot of times when Stiletto was around. It sounds like Stilettos voice too (or the actor ;) )
