The Hobbes Connection

From Wing Commander II to Wing Commander III, Colonel Blair and Ralgha nar Hhallas seem to develop a strong friendship. I don't recall any significant event which made them the best of pals. If fact, I recall Blair distrusting him slightly in the beginning of Wing Commander II. Did anything happen that I'm not aware of?

In SO1, Hobbes flies with you against a strike fleet. Four Sabers vs. two Fralthra w/ Gothri escorts. The Fralthras are armed with AM cannons. It took me months to finish that last mission.

And this one mission created their friendship? I think it must have been something more than that. You fly strike missions with many of the Concordia pilots.

theres a 1 year gap from wc2 to wc3 so they had lots of missions together and well blair is known as the "Heart of the tiger".speaking
of hobbes what's with this personalty overlay
thing? you mean hobbes character in wc2wc3
was just an act..:{!

Blair distrusted Hobbes at the start, but he very quickly got over it. They flew many a mission together in WC2 & SO1. I think they became such great friends because they basically looked at things the same way.

And of course, then there was half a year or so between SO2 and the Battle of Terra - in which they probably also flew together. Presumably, it was at this point that they lost track of each other, since Blair spent quite a bit of time in a hospital afterwards.

Kain: No, it wasn't an act. That's the whole point of that personality overlay thing - Hobbes and Ralgha are different people.

Rahl-guh. Have you played WC3? They say it there.

Some of us dont have speech on wC3. pity.

Joey: found out about that mission earlier today. Took me four tries before I found out exactly what was happening - the first three they shot me in the back. So much for honor.

Well, that's what happens when you fly with not one but two generic pilots on your wing. But don't worry - it gets quite a bit safer once Bear and the other Sabre bite the dust

There's that irrational fear of Jason Bondarevsky again.

Back to Hobbes. Remeber to that Blair at the begining of WC2 was considered by many to be a traitor. Hobbes was one of the few pilots who was willing to fly with him. They had several things in common, but at that time the one thing they most had in common was that most people did not trust either one of them. I think Blair began to realize this pretty quickly, and that helped to start their friendship. Remember to that it was Hobbes along with Angel who helped convince Tolwyn that Blair should be allowed to fly.

Truly irrational. They only shoot you in the back when youre going after the two light fighters. The punks with the a/m guns, on the other hand...

Blair dropped his prejudice against Hobbes after learning that Hobbes had rescued Downtown from death/slavery.

Now now, Dralthi5. I did mention the other Sabre - so in this case, it's not an irrational fear of Bear, it's an irrational fear of generic pilots in general

I can see that

. Besides, Primate wasn't a generic pilot - none of the fellas in WC4 were. They all had their own AIs. The neat thing about Primate was that he was as good as Maniac, but better

That's a positive thing in WC4. I like Primate. He gets his job done. In quite a few missions I prefered to take him as a wingman rather than Maniac/Vagabond/Panther.

I didn't like Panther's AI in WC4. Much too defensive!

Primate flew on my wing much more often than that lot

My least favorite thing about WC4 (at least my PSX version) is that Maniac is the default wingman.

You guys have to admit that he gets annoying as hell after a few missions.

No, he doesn't

"Ready to strut my stuff"
"It's time for some Maniac-magic"
"Just smoked another one. Man, I'm good."

Can't get enough of it
