The Dallas curse.

Seventh Part of the Seal
It seems that the callsign dallas is a bad omen. It always seems to be held by a rookie pilot with no idea what he's doing in combat situations.

In Wc2, a Dallas was stingray's wingman. His fighter suffered an "unlikely" set of malfunctions and he was destroyed.

In WCP... the fighter spontenously combusts, no matter how you try to keep enemies away from him, he always blows up. I've ordered him back to base several times, and BOOM, its like a death sentence... personally I'd rather they killed him off with a CGI movie. Doing what they did just sort of made Dallas' death kinda cheesy.

The reference is to Dallas Snell, who was an executive at Origin during those years.

The implication is of course that Jazz sabotaged Dallas' fighter... but it's hard to figure *why*.

Dallas Snell

Dallas was our 'producer' on that project, essentially. Chris was the 'director'.

Chris had a habit of throwing fits about his artistic vision, and telling us all to 'rip it all out' and start over.

After a while, Dallas had to tell us not to listen to Chris anymore. The last two months before we shipped, Chris was restricted from talking with the programmers at all (not that it stopped him). Dallas would come and get him and escort him back to Strike Commander.

He had a really hard job (perhaps the hardest at Origin, actually).

Here's a link to him:

Cool, I had no idea he was at NCSoft now!

Two other game references:

- Wing Commander II has a 'General Snell' as commander of the base at Ghorah Khar.

- Wing Commander Prophecy's 'Universe Map' has a 'Dallas System'... which is just a single star with a jump point looping back to itself. This is a reference to a company org chart that was just Dallas with a line pointing back to himself...

This is a funny story!
