Texting while Flying

Sylvester

Vice Admiral
So I was playing the original Wing Commander today. I was on the second mission in the Brimstone system, where Blair and Maniac have to fly through an asteroid field and rendezvous with an Exeter that needs to be escorted back to the Claw. After dispatching the 4 Salthi in the asteroid belt, I set course for Nav 1. At that moment, in the real world, I received a text message. I quickly looked down to see who it was from, and then looked back up, just in time to see my Scimitar collide head on with an asteroid and be destroyed.

Moral of the story kids: Don't text and fly.

Yeah, but they don't ensure against asteroid collisions. :D

If your the TCS Tiger's Claw, best get with All State for your fighters. They at least cover pilot error. :p

Do you suppose there is such as thing as FWI, flying while intoxicated, in WC?

Be kind of hard to pull somebody over to give them a test.

"Sir could you step out of your vehicle."

Although I suppose they could set up check points with small carriers (with tractor beams) nearby heavily traveled space lanes. Tractor them in if they are flying too erratically. :D

Of course, there's a whole mission where that's an option in Wing Commander III!

(If you choose "have another drink" in the scene after Angel dies, Blair is drunk for a scramble mission... and the controls don't respond correctly for the mission.)

Probably not, if the militia are too dumb to suspect you when you dump your cargo as they're scanning it then they probably wouldn't be good at traffic stops. :)

Wow! All of your insurance companies are really messed up. I can't count how many times I've actually hit other spacecraft when I was flying. Sometimes I even did it on purpose. And I've never gotten in trouble for it. Actually, and I swear to God this is true, I've come back sometimes and my company has actually given me an award for doing it.
