Don't even try to think about something fanmade, not when you haven't got even the smallest hint that it was mentioned in some concept-art, book, game or somewhere else that is related to something official....and even if you find something most people will tell you that its crap...just post your ideas somewhere else...maybe with a little graphik.

Seriously, though, why do you keep posting your designs when 1) Most people have little interest in them, 2) they relate to nothing except your own private little WC universe, and 3) most people don't like them? (The list can go on, just so you know.)

What's your damage? People are welcome to post whatever they want here - Sylvester just posted two other designs yesterday.

They got a point though...kinda pointless to just post meaningless stats and descriptions about these carriers. If you're going to do that, at least go to the trouble of making a 3d model and such for it. As much as it truly pains me to agree with Pysch...he's somewhat right on this one, find something better to do.

Well I do see the point. However I think the more ideas that are out here, the better chances of great mods and other things would come of it.

For all we know, this person might have models in the works, or has someone doing them, or not. Who knows! Perhaps a modeler will see the ideas and tinker around one weekend and next thing you see on WCCIC news front page is an image of that model..thanks to "so so" from the boards. Then new threads pop up with folks asking "when can we download that, what mod will it work with, is it done yet...is it done yet...is it done yet..." ;)

I'm not saying made up ships are great. They're certainly not my cup of tea... but there are a lot of people who enjoy making them, and a lot of people who enjoy critiquing that. I'm not about to tell those people they should go somewhere else to have fun - their ships certainly aren't hurting anyone.

You are being more idealistic then realistic.

Let's face it, most mods and other fan projects don't finish. UE finished, Standoff and Saga is close to being completed. I can think up of many other mods that were started, but soon run out of steam. Wing Commander Marine Corps, the Fleet Action Homeworld mod and Starsaint's counterpart to it, that Starfleet Command mod. They are D-E-A-D. There's very few other mods that 1) have the capability to finish or 2) have a staff mature enough to know what should and what shouldn't be completed.

There is a fine line between good practicality and sheer fanboy stupidity. The only trait needed to figure it out are people who have major experience in the WC fan community. These usually require people were around when WC first came out, or other people were around when the WC internet fan community first started out. There's very few people of these categories still here on the boards because . . . time and life moves on.

And let's face it, most of the wannabe mod maker are young, idealistic naive teenagers who only started playing the games a few years ago. When WC first came out, some of these guys were still in diapers. They don't have the maturity to know what is right or what is wrong. They hadn't experienced the needed team-work skills nor the charisma and leadership to "take charge", much less do it virtually over the internet with people who they'll never meet. There are very very very few teenagers who have the needed qualities to make a good fan project.

But most importantly, reputation is everything in this community. It begins the moment you post your first thread/response. The people who give bad first impresions don't go very well, especially with the opinion of the dwindling WC veterans, who (let's face it) can make or break someone in this community. When you make your mod or project, what do the restof the community know about you? Are you the 13-year old who posted 50 n00bie fAnB0y posts on his first day on the CIC, or a guy who worked hard and doesnt brag about his accomplishments, he let's his work talk for himself.

Now you, RFBurns, are putting blind faith and thinking that everyone who works on a WC project has the necessary temperment, maturity, willpower to not only complete any fan project they want, but to make it the best damn project ever. To think that every project that has started is going to finish, and be a credit to the community, and is going to be completed by 13-14 year old teenagers . . . is living in a dream world.

Ah, nothing quite like a wizened old vet of a message board to come down from his high peak to crush the aspirations of a 'newbie'. I've never been very active on this board, but I've read it quite often. In fact, I've read it since I was one of those 13-14 year old teenagers that you find so appalling.

Believe it or not, there hasn't been a Wing Commander game released for years. I know, big shocker. The community is propped up by friendship, hopes, and dreams. As idealistic as that may sound, it is all this place stands on and I believe it stands quite well.

A lot of modifications for established games have come about directly due to a couple of guys talking over a cup of coffee. Now, what if some guy had come along and slapped that cup of coffee on their laps and screamed in their faces 'YOU MORONS CAN'T DO ANYTHING. YOU ARE TOO YOUNG TO KNOW ANYTHING. YOU HAVE NO WORTH BECAUSE I HAVE BEEN HERE LONGER AND KNOW WHAT IS GOOD AND WHAT ISN'T."

I wouldn't have started up a new registration again, but this little bit frightens me. In the same post, psych, you announce the dwindling ranks of WC Vets AND complain about the new people coming on the boards. Yes, let the WC Community die because we want none of these 'fanbois'.

It's that kind of attitude that disgusts me and that I can't sit around and read without responding.

You happened to misread me. My main point is that to make a fan project or any mod that is a credit to the community, you need the necessary research, discipline, mentality, willpower, skills, and the experience. If you don't have them, your project is going to get deep-sixed. And unfortunately, I have the evidence on my side. Most of the fan projects do die, most recently one was Antman's project. He had some project of some mod objects and WC programming, but unfortuantely, the naiveness of youth and immaturity caught up with him and now he's banned from the CIC.

If you don't like what I just said, I respect that. If you don't like me personally, then you are just another person here on the CIC who hates my guts. If you want to attack my credentials, then game on.

Ah refreshing....the good old story again...Psych you should become a preacher or a US-President..there is not much difference ^__^

Well back to the topic...

Pschy is right about one point...most people who are starting mod are inexperienced and have great ideas that sound good in the first place but are mostly out of reach for the people trying to do it.

On the other side, a fact that Psych seams to dislike cause it would mean that someone could become better then him, is that people evolve themselfs...learn new things, meet new people.
These is what modder are made of. I don't think that Unknown Enemy or Wing Commander Saga where these people they are now, when we started our projects.
I can only speak for Saga, but I have seen quite a development there. Most of us where these greenhorn Psych is speaking of...but we evolved and we got better over time.

Well to bring it to one point...I would encourage everyone to try his best.
When your work is done...we can still see if its something good or if you have to work even harder or just let it be.
My motto: "Try your best, it can't get worst!"

And about Psych...he loves you all and his barking is just to tell you that you have to do it better next time.

@Psych:
Couldn't you wait with beating them till they came up with something realy usefull...like pictures or models...where should all the other mods get there ideas from? ^_^

*oh the entire posting is full of sarkasm*

Well Lars, you just proved my point. The active Saga crew's age ranges from 19 to 29 years of age. As you can probaly assume, the people are a lot more mature and can work in a team enviroment. Plus they are old enough to know the fine line between good practiality and stupid fandom, especially once they were pointed in the right direction.

The teenagers the team had on the other hand, were immature, stubborn, unsuited to work with "virtual" team members, had serious attitudes, or were unreliable in keeping project secrets. And as you probaly know, they are no longer active...

I'm getting too far off topic in this thread, so I'm stopping.

huh this is not what I expected at all when I clicked on this thread...strange...from weird to weirder

Here's a schematic.

You've just described a light carrier here, but with a bit more speed than I'd associate with a light carrier. I made the Strike Cruiser comment in the Medium Carrier thread because, to be honest, if you need to have a capship for quick raids, that's one way to handle it. The other way is to send in a small task force as a raiding party, which would allow for more fighters. Again, what's the point in reinventing the wheel in this situation? If you're designing a light or escort carrier, make it a light or escort carrier rather than an odd Cerberus/Eagle hybrid with pretentions towards being the Tiger's Claw Reborn?
