Standoff Dialogue Script

Sharpshooter

Rear Admiral
I've started writing the Standoff dialogue script (ala Wedge). However, since I've just realized it is quite a bit of work, I have to ask - would anyone actually be interested in seeing said script? :D

It would be something that could be incorporated for a fan guide. So far Wedge's Ep4 branches is the first one to start to break the missions down. But I can't think of who wouldn't be interested :)

If I may, a useful trick is to use the subtitle text as a starting point and work from that. IIRC, you can use HCl's TRE Manager to extract the text - for WCP/SO they were placed in a language sub-directory within the TRE files, I'm not sure if the Standoff team have followed that convention.

Well, gotta get to work, I guess :p . Here's a quick preview :

Chapter One : Crime and Punishment

Intro

[Bradshaw] (voiceover) : Things got more screwed up today. The news... at first, I thought the news we got, was a real stroke of luck. I mean, what with the cease fire and all, I just didn't think it would be long before they mothballed us. The Lionheart has a good record, and Terrell has been doing all he can to keep us on-line. But there are limits to what he can do, and the bureaucrats want to disarm as much as possible. The last few days, I've watched ship after ship taken off active duty, old friends - whole crews discharged from the service. I've really been missing the Kilrathi. So, yeah, this situation seemed too good to be true. Thirteen hours ago, a gang of pirates raided the Guadalcanal. The ship was being mothballed, and its defence systems had been shut down. The bastards managed to steal a dozen Sabres. They also took several hostages. So we got the order to pursue, and I figured, what better way to show the Lionheart still had a use. Then I saw the name of the hostages. <takes a deep breath> Sparrow is one of them. Sparrow. I've done my best to stay the hell away from her since things ended between us... but... I guess I never really got over her, not completely. Now I have to rescue her, and I'm scared to death that she might be dead when we get there, or that I'll screw up somehow and get her killed. I don't know if I could bear that. And I don't know if I really want to see her again. The stupid thing is, if she gave me a second chance, I'd probably go for it. I don't know. I'm just... confused. And that worries me even more. I can't afford to be confused. We need to stay focused. There's just no margin of error on this one. Hell, even without the hostage rescue, this would be a bad one. These pirates are damned well organised. They had to be, to pull off a stunt like this.

[Loudspeaker] : Attention all hands, brace for node acceleration. Repeat, brace for node acceleration.

[Bradshaw] (voiceover) : We're about to jump. I'd better get ready for the briefing. Computer, save journal entry and shut down.

Missions

2668.220.0720 - Nexus Sweep

Briefing

[Bradshaw] : We must escort the Lionheart to the Capella jump point. There are two waypoints along the way. The route is specifically designed to avoid the common trade routes running through this system, as we do not wish to give those pirates any advance warning. I'm keeping the Gladii on the flight deck for this one. They'd just be wasting fuel, since hostiles are likely to be minimal. The Stilettos will fly in two wings. I lead Alpha Wing, Cougar will lead Bravo.

In-flight

(Lionheart Nav)

[TCS Lionheart] (Freyers) : Let's get this show on the road, shall we? We're ready to go, Captain Bradshaw.

(Nav 1 or Jump Point)

[Oakridge] : Mayday, mayday! This is the private freighter Oakridge, we are under attack by pirates! We need help!
[Freyers] : Oakridge, transmit your coordinates immediately. And how many bogies are there?
[Oakridge] : There's two Talons out there! We're transmitting data, but please, hurry!
[Freyers] : Captain Bradshaw, the Militia is responding, but they're rather far away. We have new orders for you - the Lionheart will stay here, while you proceed to the distress call.
[Bradshaw] : That's a roger, Lieutenant Freyers. Cougar, we only need one wing - you stick around here and guard the Lionheart.

(Oakridge Nav)

[Spoons] : Wha...? I thought there was supposed to be two of them!
[Bradshaw] : You can count them after they're dead, Spoons!

Oakridge saved

[Freyers] : Good work, Captain. We've located the nearest Militia fighter patrol... We'd like you to escort the Oakridge to a rendezvous with them. And don't forget to scan the ship for contraband.
[Computer] : Scanner ready. Move within 1,000 meters of target and press I to initiate scan.
[Computer] : Scanning cargo hold. Please wait.
[Computer] : Cargo hold scanned. No contraband detected.

(Militia Nav - onlu if you rescued the Oakridge)

[Militia] : Militia here, flight lane's clear.
[Bradshaw] : All right. Oakridge, looks like you're now safe.
[Oakridge] : Thanks for the rescue, sir!

(Jump Point Nav)

Oakridge rescued

[Computer] : Mission accomplished.
[Bradshaw] : Request clearance to land.
[Freyers] : Hey, you reckon those Talons came from the same gang we're hunting? Good work, anyway. You're cleared to land.

Oakridge destroyed

[Computer] : Mission failed.
[Bradshaw] : Request clearance to land.
[Freyers] : I wouldn't call that a good start, Captain Bradshaw. If you can't beat a wing of Talons, I daresay we may be in trouble. You're cleared to land... Think you can handle that, at least?

If you went through Nav 1 (before rescuing the Oakridge), you'll go to 2668.220.0954 - Jump Point Run. If you went straight to the Jump Point (again, before rescuing the Oakridge), you'll go to 2668.220.0912 - Scrambling to Jump.

Two more missions. :D

2668.220.0954 - Jump Point Run

Briefing

[Bradshaw] : We're gonna keep moving towards the jump point. It should be a short and easy ride. However, we are two hours behind schedule, and it's possible that the pirates are already aware of our approach. If there's a welcoming committee at the jump point, we must ensure that they are never heard from again. The Gladii will be launched only after we clear the jump point - they will jump ahead into Capella to secure the other side. I lead Alpha Wing, and Cougar will lead Bravo again. Stalker and Longshot will lead the Gladii wings.

In-flight

(Firekka Nav)

[Freyers] : Hopefully, there won't be any more interruptions. Let's get going, Captain!

(Jump Point Nav)

[Freyers] : Well, whaddya know... Looks like the poor fellow's trying to kill himself. Why don't you help him out, Alpha Wing?
[Spoons] : Oooh, this will be fun!
[Spoons] : O...k... That wasn't quite as fun as I expected.
[Freyers] : Ah, damn it! Brace yourselves, everyone! That bastard will probably come back with friends!
[Freyers] : Those must be some of the stolen Sabres... take'em out now, Bradshaw, they might be carrying torpedoes!

Cougar active

[Cougar] : Lionheart, are you also picking up a blip on vector alpha-seven epsilon? It looks like there's something out there.
[Freyers] : We read it, Cougar. It looks like a single fighter, and it's... pretty slow. Captain Bradshaw, we'd like you to fly out and intercept it. Transmitting navpoint coordinates.

Cougar ejected

[Freyers] : Bradshaw, we're picking up another blip, vector alpha-seven epsilon. Judging from the speed, it might be another Sabre. We want you to fly out and intercept it. Transmitting navpoint coordinates.

(Gothri Nav)

[Gothri] : We're tracking you! Keep your distance.

Spoons active

[Spoons] : A cat! Quick, let's kill it!
[Bradshaw] : Keep your pants on, Spoons... There's a truce on. Lionheart, what exactly do we do?
[Freyers] : *gasps* A Kilrathi fighter? What the hell is it doing here? What class? Move in closer and scan it. Is it jump capable?
[Spoons] : It's a Gothri, so it's definitely jump capable. Lionheart, this is probably a spy... I say we skin this bastard and move on!
[Freyers] : Hey, do NOT fire unless fired upon! It could be a privately owned ship, and the last thing we need is for them to accuse us of violating the truce! *mutters* Damn bastards...
[Spoons] : Roger that. But we're gonna regret this later on...

Spoons ejected

[Bradshaw] : Lionheart, uh... This is a Kilrathi fighter.
[Freyers] : *gasps* A Kilrathi fighter? What the hell is it doing here? What class? Move in closer and scan it. Is it jump capable?
[Bradshaw] : It's a Gothri, definetely jump capable. Maybe a spy... do I have permission to open fire?
[Freyers] : Hey, do NOT fire unless fired upon! It could be a privately owned ship, and the last thing we need is for them to accuse us of violating the truce! *mutters* Damn bastards...
[Bradshaw] : Roger that.

[Computer] : Scanner ready. Move within 1,000 metres of target and press I to initiate scan.
[Computer] : Vessel scanned. Gothri-class heavy fighter with small cargo hold. No contraband detected.

(Firekka Nav)

If you didn't lose more than 3 fighters

[Stalker] : All clear to jump!
[Computer] : Mission accomplished.
[Bradshaw] : Request clearance to land.
[Freyers] : Good work on those Sabres. We'll be jumping in a few minutes, you are cleared to land.

Next mission : 2668.220.1032 - Finding the Rock.

If you lost 4 fighters

[Computer] : Mission accomplished.
[Bradshaw] : This is Bradshaw, I'm ready to land.
[Freyers] : Good work on those Sabres... It's just too bad that your people lost more than half of our Stilettos. We're getting pretty close to the jump point, so land immediately... And contact the Captain as soon as you land, because we'll have to alter our attack plans.

Next mission : 2668.220.1028 - Jump Point Defense.

If you lost 5 fighters

[Computer] : Mission failed.
[Freyers] : Shit. Another day, another screwed up mission, eh? You got clearance to land, Bradshaw.
[Bradshaw] : Request clearance to land.
[Freyers] : Oh, that's just great work... sir. We've lost too many fighters. Get your ass back on deck, we're aborting the whole operation.

Next : Losing Endgame 1.

2668.920.0912 - Scrambling to Jump

There is no briefing. This is a scramble.

In-flight

[Freyers] : They must have detected us! Kill them all, Captain!

[Computer] : Scanner ready. Move within 1,000 metres of target and press I to initiate scan.
[Computer] : Vessel scanned. Gothri-class heavy fighter with small cargo hold. No contraband detected.

(Firekka Nav)

If you protected your allies well enough

[Freyers] : Good work on those Sabres. So much for the element of surprise, though. We're sticking with the original plan, but we'll need to push back the jump a bit. You're cleared to land.

Next mission : 2668.220.1028 - Jump Point Defense.

Lost "many" ships

[Freyers] : Good work on those Sabres... It's just too bad your people lost so many ships. We're getting ready to jump, so land immediately... And contact the Captain as soon as you land, because we'll have to alter our attack plans.

Next mission : 2668.220.1028 - Jump Point Defense.

Lost "too many" ships

[Computer] : Mission failed.
[Freyers] : Shit. Another day, another screwed up mission, eh? You got clearance to land, Bradshaw.
[Bradshaw] : Request clearance to land.
[Freyers] : Oh, that's just great work... sir. We've lost too many fighters. Get your ass back on deck, we're aborting the whole operation.

Next : Losing Endgame 1.
