Some good ideas ljuin. I am not sure I completely agree with the notion that missiles supersede laser turrets. Throughout the WC timeline, we have seen ships use both. Now, if Confed had the ability with sensor systems and long range missiles to strike at fighter targets well outside of conventional ranges (conventional for WC), then I could see some viability. But, this would mean the new missiles would have to fly extremely fast and be incredibly evasive to keep from being shot down. I think this was the original idea for CSM's (targetted for capital ships as opposed to fighters).
More plasma type weapons might prevail. Plasma cannons carried aboard bombers may even replace torpedoes.
