I don't think the earlier games are that much of a problem, tech-wise... working your way up from a Corsair with a laser to a Raptor with four guns will play exactly the same way as going from a Piranha to a Vampire.

LOAF, do you have a list of fighters that operated in the period 2634-2654??

I kinda feel for you Firefalcon...you want to write a story about a race that the community knows little about. kinda treading on dangerous waters here lol.

I think I read somewhere when WC was still pumping along the prophecy series..that they wanted to introduce more aliens to the nephilim (I probably spellled it wrong, I just don't want to scroll up or hunt for the right one, I remember LOAF correcting someone once lol). Like the bugs were just a branch of a star spanning empire who conquers...serving a higher power or some such.

I think it would be cool to have the bugs act like a swarm of locusts...which seems like what they are, swooping in to conquer. Maybe they are a species of warriors who felt the Kilrathi were not "worthy" opponents...and waited until they were (the prophecy). That might be hard to believe since prophecies can be true, but are generally like 80% prose and superstition.

I am not sure about the hive mind thing though, perhaps they have a controlling hive computer for tactical operations, kinda like the living computers the Yuuzhon Vong used in NJO. It would be hard to believe that a race like the bugs, which are either technologically superior or equal can not overwhelm a smalller force when they can operate on a thought level. Instantanious communication is devasting in organized warfare.

I do appreciate you attepting on staying loyal to the WC genre and community, I have read some of the fan-fic....and whew...crazy, I will go along with LOAF when he says stuff about the borderworlds not being able to support powerful supercarriers and fighters. (WOuld kinda be like Puerto Rico one day rolling out a 3000 foot nuclear fusion carreir, with ballistic missile batteries and an entire air force and naval air force with, trans atmoshperic stealth fighters equipped with advanced missiles and capable of reaching mach 4.)

I started a fan fic a while ago I just never got around to working on it again...set during the time of end run....I am staying as loyal to all the info I have plucked from these boards and the CIC, aside from the name of the escort carrier they run off of. I too have an appreciation to not go hog wild and just go ape drek and completly spoil what the WC universe represents. In some ways it could be considered a extreme version of Enterprise..complety whacking out what fans had considered canon for years.

Oh if you want to read a crazy fan fic.....try hunting down Wing Commander and Star Wars crossover...galaxy at war....I wasn't even able to finish it lol.

But HEY!!!! Just because a BW supercarrier isn't in the WC Games, doesn't mean that it DOESN"T EXIST!!!!!!!!!!!!! ;)

As for the Wing Commander/Star Wars crap, go read some stuff written by NeoDevilbane, a turd in the highest degree.

You have got to be kidding me. This was actually a serious project?? I checked through it and it even looks 'canon'. lol :p

Hey Psych, can you answer my previous question? What fighters are known to have been used by Confed in the '34-'54 period?

Fruitcake, this SW/WC crap is just one little part of the stuff that comes from the Wing Commander Aces club, in the name of "expanding the Wing Commander universe" :(

As for your question: I'm not really familiar with this era, LOAF can give you a much better detail then I would. I would think the Raptor, Scimitar, and Hornet are in there though. Maybe a Broadsword A or something.

Or someone who remembers a conversation like this from a year ago will be nice enough to link you a thread posted in by LOAF :)

Enjoy - bout half way down

IIRC, that fiction was part of the background written for Strike Team, the cancelled sequel to Secret Ops... Boomer posted it to alt.games.wing-commander by mistake some years ago. (As for what they're looking for - the only reasonable guess I've ever been able to make is Blair... but there's some logical problems there, too.)

Sorry for bringing back an old thread... but I now know what the meaning of the artifact reference was!

First post in my livejournal explains it: http://banditloaf.livejournal.com/

Loaf, this sounds like an old Spielberg movie - in the end, everything ties together, the erratic behavior of the baddies suddenly makes sense, plot holes are welded over with sudden turns... Truly, you can be proud to dig up this Rosetta stone of WC lore.

And take your time with scanning - wouldn't that be a nice Xmas present?

hmm just commenting on the "if the steltek were not at war anymore, how would their weapon level be?"

if the usa were to declare war on europe, how long do you think it would take them to build a blackbird or a F117-killer if the pressure was on?

Given that they've also bought American weapons, at least some of those nations, I'd say "not long" - especially as the Blackbird's been long decomissioned, and the F-117's low-radar profile would be detectable on French or German equipment, IIRC. You forget that technological change, while driven by war, does not necessarily mean that breakthroughs happen overnight - it's more that there's more impetus to throw things out there, without testing the idea to death, when the bombs are falling on your head.

The question would also be if europe would would want to. At least some are convinced that the Eurofighter is the best plane in the world. Dunno if it is true. it isn't stealthy however.

"Hey, I have the Privateer 3 script"

"WHAT IF EUROPE HAD A WAR AND NOBODY HAD STEALTH FIGHTERS???"
