simply... WOW!!!

HammerHead

Rear Admiral
Hey guys...
I've been a little out of tuoch for a couple of month, and when I come back - Standoff ep. 1 is out!

I installed, played and...

WOW!!! WOW WOW WOW WOW!!!!

This is one hell of a job guys! Origin should have hire you!

The excellent story (I really like the "come be a pirate bradshaw...NOT!!" part on mission 4),
The Stilleto, the Gladius, and most of all the good-old Sabre!
The gun effects (the ORIGINAL WC2 particle gun effect)
The life on a "side-line" destroyer, rather then a major fleet carrier.
BTW - the news story on the base-defence pilot using an iron-claw glove to emulate kilrathi made murders - Excellent scenery for this era of "peace".

WC 1 & 2 were always my favorite, and Stand off just gives you this warm fuzzy feeling.... Uhhhhh, how long have i missed the good feeling of having a new wing commander game!!!

Glad you like it, I did aswell.
The mission 4 alternate path endling is kidna lame, IMO. If you got time to spare, you should make a side mission with a Talon against your former mates or such THEN have you lose no matter what..
Yeah, I enjoyed the Sabre the most in Standoff rather than WC2. It's great to have such a ship after Stiletto and Gladius missions.
[smartassmodeon]IIRC, the claw of the murder was made of tungsten, which is a bit more durable and flexible than iron and mosly used for civilian-grade armor (hint: Privateer).[smartassmodeoff]

I don't think my skills would be much use for UO. :p
(And Quarto already got hired by some other company... y'all go and buy his game when it's out).

We actually wanted to improve on that part, like what Lazy Panda said:

That was precisely our original intention, but we figured we don't have enough time to be making dead-end missions.

Actually that was a mix between the KS version of the sound and the original version... I have re-made that sound for Ep. 2. It's still a mix, but now it's closer to the original sound.

Yeah, the underdog trend will continue with the Firekka from now on, and the really cool parts will be when it has escort ships.

Well, kuddos to Tempest on that one - I'm pretty sure I just told him I wanted a filler newsletter-type email with references to the armistice. :)

Oh, I was refering to the visual aspect - I excpected you to use the SO version (mainly do to a front screenshot of a Rapier firing it's load, BTW I also noticed that on that particular screenshot the guns are reversed...).
But when a Talon took a pot-shot at me for the first time I went "one sec, was that a real WC2 style pacrticale bolt?",
then came the second shot, and I went "IT IS!",
and then came the third shot, and I went "Oh shit! I'd better take cover! these Stilettos cant take much of these..."
(and then came the forth shot, and I had to start the whole mission again...)

You can bet I'll be tuned!!!!!

Yup, it's an early screenshot. In our first page of screenshots there is also a crossbow firing laser-shaped blue guns which were our early neutrons... now we've fixed that too.

Sounds familiar, indeed. :p

What difficulty are you playing at? I played throught the entire first episode on ace without dying.

Since the game is in the WCP engine I went in on ace difficulty and just charged the enemy, expecting the shields to hold like they do on prophecy. Then I realised that this game trully does run and feel like wc2, which was amazing. But I only got used to flying in a wc2 style after getting blown up several times.

flight instructre: "this is your ship. this is enemy ship. this are energy bolts. if energy bolts hit your ship - you dead. in order to survive you need to make sure that enemy ship do not line you up on it's sights, while you DO line it up YOUR sights. then you pull triger...."

in other words - you can't dodge bullets if your busy enjoing the view (and what a view indeed :D )

Except that when you're out of AB fuel in Standoff, you're done. In wc2, you could survive for awhile at cruising speed by spinning wildly while taking a second to fire at a target when it presented itself.

Heh, oh yeah, I'd forgot about that little 'tale'. I'm pretty sure, along with the computer voices, that that was the first thing I did for Standoff, wasn't it? Was a fun little thing to write. Who knows where I got the idea from, but I'm pretty sure I wrote it when I was meant to be doing uni work ;)

Yup, your first assignment was just to help me and Q with all the filler writing... comms, e-mails, etc. We still do use your comm sets for the generic pilots, don't we?
