Shields and torpedoes

Blaster

Rear Admiral
In one of the episodes of Academe they are about to attack Thrakhath’s dreadnought and I think someone says that the shields are so strong a torpedo might not be able to get through. Does this mean that it’s possible to make shields strong enough so that torpedoes can’t skip through them or am I misunderstanding something?

I think that is what it means - or at least shields so strong that it's much harder to maintain a lock (it wasn't *impossible* to torpedo the Agahn Ras Sivar... just harder.)

You sure? Even Maniac doesn't end out pulling it off successfully, just missiles off a few turrets, if I recall correctly (I finished Academy yesterday). Oh, well. I think in the end it was just something they threw in to make the battle more tense since the dreadnought wasn't *going* to be torped.

On a semirelated note- how did Thrak survive the resulting impact?

If you rewatch the sequence in slow motion you can see his Grikath fly away just as the dreadnaught hits the ground.

Right. Also, he's always listed as the prince, and I think once he listed his father as the emperor, when we know it just ain't so at this time (him as prince; his GRANDFATHER being the emperor). Just a simple oversight?

Not entirely an oversight - an error, but one whose origins we understand...

The original plan for the first season of Academy was to be the story of Secret Missions 2, ending with the battle for Firekka. This was changed late in the game when they decided they didn't want to retell an existing story -- so everything was moved back a year and a variation of the same story on a different planet ended up being the finale.

I thought Maniac pulled a true "Maniac move" and made a strafing run through the hangar causing enough damage to cripple the ship??

need to redownload the episodes at some point, I lost them all in a reformat :(
