why are some of the systems not connected by jump points?
eg. Dallas(near sodom and gomorrah)sp

They are... jokes, and not all star systems would be connected by jump routes.

Unless you used a Hopper drive.

Dallas is the only unconnected system, and it's a in-joke about Origin's Dallas Snell (General Snell from WC2!).

A Hopper Drive is a propulsion unit used before the current jump system. It created heavy gravametric distortions for FTL travel but it was very ineffective compared to current Jump technology. Refer to the WCM Technical Manuel and the Telep Movie novels for further information.
