Prophecy Win98 problem.

I have a Toshiba Infinia 7230 with a AMD K6 400Mhz upgrade chip and 64 Megs of RAM. Sound and video chipsets. I installed the 98SE update a couple of and haven't run my WCP for a while, I just tried and it didn't work- I removed and reinstalled, copying my saves to a floppy. When I try to run it, it says:

PROPHECY caused an invalid page fault in
module PROPHECY.EXE at 0167:004af7e0.

If you geniuses out there can help me, I'd be grateful.

Hmmm ... so it worked before you made the update? And
it stopped working with this error when you made the
update?

It seems to me like your new hardware doesn't like
Prophecy. Some suggestions:

1. If this is the case, look in the Prophecy troubleshooting
guide and the on-CD README to see if your particular
hardware configuration is mentioned. If it is and there
are special instructions, execute them and try to
re-run with the update.

2. If that doesn't work, look at the website of the company
that made the update. See if they have any troubleshooting
guide such as "Yeah, on Windows 98 this doesn't work
well with direct X. To fix this, download the following
patch..."

3. If you're still stuck, e-mail the company's support
people with your question. You might also try Origin,
but I don't think they provide tech support for Prophecy
any more. However, I could be wrong.

4. You might also try experimenting with your configuration.
If you've got enough patience, you might try uninstalling
the update and running again. If it still doesn't work,
it may not be the update at all! If so, keep experimenting
with different configurations until you have a pretty
good idea of which hardware or software is actually
causing the problem.
Good luck!

An invalid page fault can happen anytime for any program. I have had several for various programs. Before you take pendell's suggestions, reboot and try to run prophecy again. If it still doesn't work, try running it without any other program running. This will determine if the problem was temporary or if there is a software conflict. Fixing these problem will be alot easier than playing with your hardware and gmae setups.

I had similar problem after updating my machine from Win95 to 98. Big mistake!! Most of my games also had some problems under 98. I went thru all the hoopla of driver this, driver that, unload this, unload that, reinstall this and that, so I finally said $@@%#@!. I reinstalled 95 and that machine runs all my sims just fine. So now I have one machine running 95 specifically for games that have probs with 98. 98 is mearly a beefed up win95, with lots o bugs.
Good Luck.
