Spaceman
Prophecy Upgrade Pacakge now available for download! :D

DVD_Menu.jpg

There are four ways to upgrade Wing Commander: Prophecy from this package:

Option 1 - Low-Res Movies, requires CD and very little hard drive space is used.
Option 2 - Low-Res Movies, No-CD Support and some hard drive space is used.
Option 3 - High-Res Movies, requires CD and more hard drive is used.
Option 4 - High-Res Movies, No-CD support and the most hard drive space is used.

All options require installing this package to an existing Prophecy game install.

Install Prophecy from your original game discs, then install the Upgrade Package, That's it!, all Prophecy Movies Files and Patches are installed! You are ready to play with Hi-Res Movies and OpenGL Support. All extra software the user might need is also included.

Pete's new Secret Ops installer is included as well!

Also included is an image file for playing the game without the CD and requires virtual CD-rom emulation software (included). The image is suitable for playing the game but is unusable for actually installing the game.

DVD Release Notes:

The Prophecy Upgrade DVD is in an ISO format. The ISO Format is a Disc Image containing the data to be written to disc. Nearly all CD/DVD Burning software support burning the ISO format to disc. It is a common format.

However if you are confused on how to burn an ISO to disc,
I suggest using the "BurnAware Free" (freeware, contains no crap-ware) available at
http://www.burnaware.com/burnaware_free.html

Alternately, you can also mount the ISO in a virtual drive.
You can download a Virtual Drive Program called "Virtual CloneDrive"
(freeware, contains no crap-ware) available at
http://www.slysoft.com/en/virtual-clonedrive.html

Finally, if you would prefer to extract the data from the ISO to a folder your hard drive, you can use ISOBuster (shareware, unlimited demo) available at
http://www.isobuster.com/

All files list below can be extracted with WinRAR (http://www.rarlab.com) or 7-Zip (http://www.7-zip.org)

An installer is a great idea, but the majority of us have downloaded the movies already. A version that includes the movies is a pretty hefty download for something we mostly already have. I think something that will do this without pre-packaging the videos would be more useful, and easier on bandwidth.

To be honest, i didn't want to post in this thread until i was sure it wouldn't include any "warez", i.e. the full Prophecy game. I'm sure your download-counter will speak for itself. Most of us simply can't comment on the functionality because we already have it working, but in the end your installer will pay off. Never underestimate silent lurkers, i'm also a big fan of the Babylon project but i didn't register with your message board just to post some praise. Awesome job!

Well, OK then :)

The hit counter looks crazed at megaupload

Part 1 shows 6 hits, part 2 shows 3 hits, but part 3 part shows 46 hits with parts 4 and 5 showing 1 hit each, but Megaupload's hit counters have always worked strangely for me...

So I have no idea what the actual downloads look like. (but you gotta love 1 gb file size)

Warez? It would be kinda stupid to drop a warez bomb in the middle of WC Country don't you think? ;) (No giant armed cats on the door step please!)

BTW - The focus of this package is new people and archivers (collectors) Even the old timers have to reinstall sometime... (like me when I loaded up the RTM of Windows 7) :)

I don't really feel like uninstalling Prophecy just to try your upgrade pack, but i find it very comforting that i can delete the movies on my HD, burn your pack on a DVD and put it to my Prophecy disks. So next time i install the game i won't have to search for the patches and dlls all over the place. I think your pack came a little too early, everyone fumbled around with HCl's new patch just a short while ago and is happy its working, noone wants to put that at risk. Your're basically solving a problem most of us will have a few months later.

Well, I certainly understand a not wanting to do a needless reinstall but there are two things on the disc you can use now (if you're on Vista or 7)...

.. the hi-res Icons :)

So, since I'm a dumbass when it comes to these things...

My choice would be Option 4, which I'm assuming is the DirectX9c option. Do you burn these things to a DVD and then run the installer from that DVD?

Also, have you found that any one DVD player or another hangs the game while trying to run it all after install? I never could get my system to run the game with the Hi Res movies patch...it played the movies just fine but hung the game itself afterwards.

Thanks!

Question 1 - Yes, but you must already have Prophecy installed from you original game discs., Option 4 is still using OpenGL, but you can run it in DirectX but it is not recommended. DirectX 9 is just the redistributable package included on the disc as a mere convenience. Plus directx is still used for audio and joystick support (I think).

Question 2 - all I can say for myself is that I am a not having that issue, others here are better quailified to answer that. But being that the mini-image runs from a vitual drive, it may just cure your issue.

I care. Thanks so much for placing all of the required files in one place. Now I can reload my WCP again. If you want I can let you know if I experience any problems with the install & updates. If you don't hear from me again you will know that everything went just fine. Thanks again for your time and effort.

Are the high res icons available only in the large pack? Again, if the focus of this pack is "archivers" (who outnumber new users 10 to 1 here), then a package without the movies (since they've already downloaded them) would be much preferred. We could mirror that here and not have to worry about megaupload being weird.

a bump for the hell of it :)

BTW - some users have reported issues when extracting with 7zip, if you have such issues, try using WinRar

Well, I sure could get some use out of this. I think I may have already downloaded some of the movies in the past, but I don't mind re-downloading.

Thanks.

Has there been a repackage of everything but the multigig movie packs? Or at least a separate release of the high res icons?

Okay, I have installed it with all the bells-and-whistles.

Had some issues with audio, so I installed that audio software/codec thing that came with this upgrade package. Audio now plays, there are other issues with audio though. Anytime I skip the video, the audio keeps playing. This is apparently a Vista (and probably Windows 7) problem that is fixed by this newer dll file that HCl made. This did correct the audio problem. I would think that this new dll should also work on XP versions, so you make want to update your package; preferably without the high-res video.

The skipping bug was definitely there, thanks for reporting it. It didn't show up on my main machine (which still runs XP), which is why it went unnoticed, but after testing it on a Vista machine i did manage to reproduce this problem. Here is a new DLL that should fix this, i'm sorry for the inconvenience.

Also, the new DLL should no longer need the "disable desktop composition" option under the Compatibility tab.

Regarding the resolution issue, i think it's very likely this issue is fixed on the latest version of the OpenGL driver (currently on development). One of the developers should be able to tell you more, though.

Mario

Curiously enough I still get that gray screen flash before the video plays, but that is pretty minor and may be a problem for everybody. (note I also installed the Mpeg2 software included in this upgrade)

Another issue, I can't seem to get the game to do the no-CD thing yet. I tell the launcher to load the prophecy image file but it does nothing. This is after I have installed the included "Virtual Clonedrive" software.

That doesn't work at all. I've installed that virtualclone with the stupid sheep on it, then I reinstalled the upgrade. No effect.

Edit: Ah screw it, I'll burn the stupid ISO.

Could you, or anyone, pleas reupload this? I want to play Prophecy and this patch is something I desperately need.
