Privateer Ship Specifications

Bandit LOAF

Long Live the Confederation!
After unpacking .tre files to find whatever ship specification I was looking for at a particular time about a million times, I finally bit the bullet and zinged out all the Priv and RF ship stats... and here they are:

This is great reference material.

It will be interesting to compare the actual in-game stats with those found in the manual and the playtester's guide.

I was wondering though, there were claims that computer-controlled ships mounted weaker weaponry than the player. Does anyone have any idea how this was accomplished (slower ROF, weaker damage)?

I don't recall that claim. They seem to pull their weapons data from the same place the player gets his. When there's a hidden bias, it requires an entirely separate set of guns: the Retro ships in Righteous Fire call a different Steltek gun.

Usually in Wing Commander the bias is on the player rather than the universal physics of all the weapons. The games usually award some modifier to the player character's fighter -- +200 armor units or somesuch -- to keep them in the air for longer than their AI equivalents.

Those people over at the Privateer Remake have presumably figured out how all this works better than I have, though, so you might ask them.

Have you figured out the recharge rate of the shields? For the early builds of Reckoning I worked off an earlier ship and equipment spec chart, and it had a "regen" stat but no explanation about how it works. It's a pretty important matter, so if that can be cracked that'd be a huge leap for Privateer fan projects everywhere.

Well, the NPC ships don't mount armor upgrades--they have base armor only, which means that the player gets 100 extra armor units with plasteel, 200 extra with tungsten, and 600 extra with isometal.

Also, it appears that shield types 6-11 are for NPC ships only, as opposed to being a direct progression from player types 1-5. For example, we know that a Talon's type 6 shields are definitely weaker than type 3 player shields. Where does the player type 6 shields from RF fit into this?

As far as I can tell, they're: Light Shields, Medium Shields, Heavy Shields, Capital Ship Shields, Weak Light Shields and Steltek Drone Shields. The first three (which the regular NPC fighters use) are toned-down versions of player shield types 1-3.

Broadsword, Centurion, Dralti, Galaxy, Orion, Tarsus, Demon, Drayman, Gothri, Gladius, Steltek Drone, Talon, Stiletto, Salthi, Paradigm, Kamekh

Hmm those are the ships also on my mind. I think I have play that again somehow there is one more ship missing

The closest you're probably going to get is to look at the scale of the ship purchase screen and try to compare that to the sprites.

I believe six of the Privateer ships have lengths established elsewhere:

Broadsword - 36 meters
Dralthi - 28 meters
Drayman - 96 meters
Gladius - 36 meters
Kamekh - 135 meters
Salthi - 24 meters

And then I think an argument might be made for the Talon being 36 meters long... since the Gladius apparently eventually got its length because it started out life as a 36-meter Raptor model (and the Talon got its start as a 36-meter Talon model).

And I assume this information came from the other games and supporting documents correct? (I.e. WC2 establishes the Broadsword as 36 meters etc.) In other words this information didn't come from documents and info accompanying Privateer itself right?
