Hi guys, can anybody help me with a Privateer related question?

Does anybody know if it's possible to take on more than one cargo mission at a time?

Example, I want to make a paid delivery run from PERRY to NEW CONSTANTINOPLE, but as I'm accepting the mission I see a delivery needed from PERRY to EDOM. So I accepted both... missions....

But it seems that when I land at Edom, I only get paid for that mission, and the cargo/mission briefing for New Constantinople is gone... why is this?

Saw this guy's post earlier, can't answer it myself and I've had this problem too. Do the missions have to be done in order or something? Always thought it was just my version...

Yeah... once you've accepted a cargo mission you will fail it if you land anywhere else.

Unfortunately the game lets you accept up to three cargo missions, even if flying one will render the other two impossible. The only thing to do is watch for missions with the same delivery planet (you can actually save and reload until you get missions you want).

I'd swear too that once I took two cargo runs to New Detroit and didn't get paid a dime. Might have just been my imagination.

This article (from a game design textbook printed in 1994) claims that the cargo cancel-out had to do with concerns over how the engine would handle it and the additional work that would have to go into implementing it.

That's certainly possible... I never did much trading--I was more of a mercenary.

I think I managed reload/save into a triplet of simultaneous cargo missions sometimes... but yeah, I tended to go with simultaneous patrol missions more often, I think.

My standard was Oxford - one patrol, two strike/defend missions. You could almost always get it between the Merc Guild and the mission computer without reloading. Just circle the three nav points and land back on the planet.

It depends on where I happened to be at a given time, of course, but I tended to prefer New Constantinople, New Detroit, and Perry patrols. The number of nav points bumps up the payment for flying the mission and doing them three at once, well, it was quite easy to rack up the credits, as I recall.

Indeed, this is the way I've been doing things in my latest playthrough. If you take on multiple Mercenaries Guild missions you might encounter enemies at four of seven navpoints but you'll make about 30,000 credits!

This game is fabulous, I'd forgotten really how good it is. Gonna chronicle my playthrough with a pictures thread soon methinks.

One more question....why no roll control in Privateer? Is it hidden? Can't see it on the reference card and the usual keys - Q/A </> don't seem to do anything.

Ahhh, thanks that figures, my laptop keyboard lacks the necessary numeric pad. Haven't tried joystick this time around, time to switch.
