Privateer and windows me

I cant get my boot disk to work for windows me, im using the same disk before i install windows me. When i tried to create the boot disk under windows me, it still does work. Does anyone else have any luck creating a boot disk for window me.

Actually, WinME does have "real" DOS; someone just clubbed it in the kneecap and skated away. There are utilities out there to restore full DOS functionality, though of course none are developed or approved by Microsoft.

One part of the crippling of DOS in WinME is the inability to create boot disks, though I thought previously created boot disks still worked fine; guess I was wrong. Since I refuse to use WinME under any but the most drastic conditions, 'fraid I can't help much beyond that.

Since Priv won't work I guess Armada won't either... I would install Win 98 over Win ME but I don't want to go through the hassle of chasing down the drivers. And I doubt that I could find Dos drivers for my hardware. You said there were programs out there that could restore Dos Stinger. Could you give me a link? It's worth a try, and if it does f-ck up my system I can just reinstall. It has been almost a year since I've played Aramada and Prive and I really want to try them out again for fun.
If all else fails I can always get a cheap 486 mother board from Ebay for my older games....

I havn't tried Viagra yet but I hear that works too.
Thanks man, I'll tell you if my system blows up or not. Then again, if my comp does blow up how could I tell you if the program works.....

Ok, I tried the hack or patch or whatever you want to call it but had some problems with it. After doing al that was said I restarted my computer and to my surprise a Dos promt came up. Unforunatally I had no Dos drivers installed (sound, mouse, CD). For the hell of it I installed a Belkin mouse (I have a MS mouse) and used my old CD driver which surprisingly made it so both my CDR and CD ROM drives work. I tried using an old Sound Blaster driver for my sound card but no luck. Anyway, for the hell of it I tried installing WC3 and Privateer... I got the same error as before with WC3 and Privatter complained about not having any memmory. WC4 on the other hand ran great....aside from their being no sound. I tried to run Memmaker but it doesn't seem to be present.
The bigetst problem with the patch that I had was that I couldn't load Windows at all. It would give an error saying that the helper file (FSHLP) was not present so system is halted. I used a backup program and was able to retore my original config.I'll screw around with it later if I can but if there is no way to alicate memory...
I'll try to make bootdisks and see if that works but need to find a driver for my sound card.

It works sort of. I had to reinstall Windows to get it working again. That and I couldn't alicate memory to play the games since Memmaker isn't there. Aside from that stuff it works great.

you can run any dos game in any type of windows AFAIK.

just right-click the file you want to run (eg install.exe), go to properties, and make sure the box "prevent from detecting windows" is checked. im not sure what tab its in, since i am at work and using a dutch pc.

still, i could be wrong, and youve prob already tried this, its just always worked for me so i thought id mention it

You must have a boot disk of win95, 98 or any dos with the souncard and cd-rom files in your config and autoexec
