I keep my P2 saves in a series of archives, \000 (which contains all "blank" GAMExx.IFF, useful for seeing the introductory movies again, preparing new savegame "sets", etc)., \001, \002, etc.
This list helps me keep track of what I have done, and what I need to do / look out for / anticipate.
About the 17 SOS missions in Privateer 2 (in case you don't know). They follow THIS order; in the order listed below, the FIRST time through. Then the list starts recycling, EXCEPT that SOS #1 "CIS CODE 3 TOP PRIORITY" (the "unknown"/Talon(?) ship) NEVER repeats. The last 16 of the 17 SOS missions repeat. Then at some point, the last 16 SOS missions start to occur again in RANDOM order. FAILING / skipping SOS missions may or may not influence the order (?) (inconclusive)

About the first save slot ("KANE"); what I always do is start a new game (you will end up in the Sinner's Inn), then transit back to customs. The Booth will be "Out of Order" (until you talk to Joe). I save at that point; so that the first conversation with Joe Kane the Bartender can be viewed again.

The Nelson Ramirez situation TENDS to show up AFTER the Main Plot is done. It TENDS to be the last cinematic. Origin's way of forcing a switch back to CD1?

I prefer to make just one savepoint for the Doctor Gould > Angus Santana > Shernikov package delivery runs. Its not worth using 3 save slots. For that matter, the second Nelson Ramirez movie is so short that perhaps just 1 save for Ramirez is best.
