Pilgrims/Mandarins

Seventh Part of the Seal
I was thinking about this for a while and sort of wondering if anyone knows the origin of the Society of Mandarins (outside the historical context). The fictional society of Mandarins and the Pilgrims both seemed hell bent on causing the Confederation to lose the war by any means possible.

Is there any relationship between the Mandarins and the Pilgrim Alliance? Is it possible that the Pilgrim remnants are the founders of the new movement? Collaborators? Or just two seperate factions?

We don't have solid details about the founding of the Society of Mandarins, but we know they were first exposed in 2655 onboard the TCS Winterrowd.

The two groups have a similar effect, but ideologically speaking they're actually polar opposites.

The Society of Mandarins are a group that would consider themselves patriots - they believe that the only way to save the Confederation is to allow the Kilrathi to win the war. Mandarins consider the war unwinnnable, and want to preserve human culture and eventually defeat the Kilrathi from within.

The Pilgrim terrorists seen in the movie and Pilgrim Stars are the radical militant remnants of the Pilgrim Alliance, a former nation annexed by the Confederation after that war. Their goal is to destroy the Confederation and to restore their state.

Now, there is one obvious connection - both groups were used by the Kilrathi to further their own goal.

They probably aren't related, though. Remember that the Pilgrims don't really exist after 2654 - 'Pilgrim Truth' removes most of them to a distant universe.

So...Mandarins are PATRIOTS?
How very interesting...
Never looked at them from this point of view.
Thanks a lot for the info. It'll surely give birth to some new fanfics of my friends :)
