Opinions on Standoff Episode 1 (*spoiler warning*)

Actually, we have finished coding all of Episode 2's campaign missions, but we still need to come up with 4 (or was it 3?) sim missions. Everything will come together more or less at the same time.

Dang. What files do I copy to use your ship set in the standard WCP simulator (using the sim patch)?
Try this thread - I got the ships to work, even though it results in a screwed up hud.

Is it just me or is it REALLY hard to keep your wingmen alive in Standoff.

I felt like I was doing all the work and I was only plaing it in Ace.

Actually I found the wingmen handled themselves pretty well on Ace. They do get killed, but not THAT often. You usually lose one or two in a big fight, that's about it.

You've got to keep pretty close tabs on them on the higher difficulty settings.

Sometimes they will get themselves in a big tangle and they need some help and don't often ask for it

(And it won't get more shields :p)
Heh, after playing the Standoff prolouge on Ace once again, I stopped caring for the shields if you have enough speed and a big burner tank to steer clear of any trouble and enough loadout to be deadly. In fact, most of the time my Stilettos returns with merely some busted front armor (usually from Sabre backfireguns) while my I am very good at bringing my Gladii to 70%+ ship damages.

As for my wingmen, it's IMO a matter of beating down enemy numbers so they don't screw up.

-ASF, now waiting for the next episode or a prerelease Standoff simulator.

I've been on Wing Commander hiatus for a while, and man, you guys really put together something spectacular. If I was told this was a professionally made game that EA was going to release, I'd believe it. The attention to detail is really phenomenal, fan-friggin-tastic!

They just can´t handle turrets well.

Also, the WCP AI is at its dumbest when it comes to dodging asteroids.

What seemed to happen was half my wingmen would die and then I'd get all shot up and drag my Stilletto home with no armour and a core I really didn't want to be sitting in front of.

The Gladi were fine but it still seemed like my wingmen would be dead within 1 minute of entering a big fight. The only way to stop it was to go all out crazy and then I used everything up.

I'm not a master pilot but I'm no slouch either, it may by that my plays style is just too suited to heavies, I started out as a bomber pilot in X-Wing.

The Wingmen did seem a bit incompetent. If you don't toast everyone in a few minutes they don't hold their own for very long.

This might sound like a stupid question, but how am I supposed to defect with Squealer and the pirates? When I hit "N" I don't get any kind of nav map to point myself towards the base and autopilot just takes me back to my ship.

CTRL+N brings up the navmap... right click a navpoint there to select it as your destination.

Pressing N just makes your current destination show up on the right side of the HUD.

For as useful as the navmap is (like finding out which fighters are harassing your damaged wingman or your ship so you can help out), you would think Origin would have made it easier to guess the key combination for

(Although there is a List Keys section in the esc menu)

Yup - makes me wonder wheter it'd be a waste of time to add our custom keys (tractor beam, scanner, jump drive, etc) to that key list as some people have requested. :)

If you've been playing WCP/SO before, you should know the keys for various functions. And Ctrl-N isn't too different from N. They could have made it something really obscure if they wanted to.

Secret Ops really didn't require you to open the nav map at all. If you hadn't played Prophecy before you may as well not know that it exists.

That´s one of the reasons I think Standoff and UE missions are much more complex and interesting than SO´s.

Also, there is at least one mission in WCP and another in SO where you MUST change your navpoint in order to not face near death (WCP) and save a convoy (SO)

Are you sure?

The only ship escort/saving missions I remember in SO were ones where you invariably ended up autopiloting to them by default or your main objective was to go get them
