no survivors

Wingnut

Spaceman
OK gang, Wing commander prophecy. In this mission (no survivors). I cannot find any friendly's. What am I doing wrong?

You need to select the new Nav point manually. Press Ctrl-N to get to your Nav map and right click on the new Nav point (which I think is Nav 2). That'll select the Nav point. Then you can autopilot to it.

After all this time!! I too never figured this out, how to find the friendlies in the mission "no survivors". You hear the call for help, but where are they?! Now I know! Very sneaky!!

Needing to do it manually does kind of come out of nowhere. I mean other than that mission i never accessed the nav map that i can remember.

Maybe that was the point - they wanted to remind you that there is a nav map :).

I'm curious, though - how is it that you never used the nav map? I mean, I personally check the nav map at least once per mission, and usually a lot more than that (the zoom option in particular is great). In fact, the lack of nav map in the simulator drives me nuts ;).

I remember that mission. I didn't know how to select the navpoint so I flew there manually. Took forever and IIRC when I got there the bugs stopped attacking the other wing and came flying after me and my wingmates.
Missions like this one annoy me because the time it takes to reach the wing that's in trouble is so great that you'd undoubtedly arrive too late. Then again this is WC...

Why would i need to look at the nav map? I autopilot to the first nav point and kill a bunch of bugs, then auto to the next and kill a bunch of bugs and repeat one to two more times. I guess i never really tried to use the nav map. What does the zoom feature do?

The nav map is useful because you can use it to find out who's attacking who. When defending the Midway/Seahawk you can prioritise the bugs that are directly threatening your charges. The zoom feature is useful because it enlarges the picture making it easier to distinguish between all the icons representing us and the bugs.

Does that mean you can fly ahead and kill the bugs before the seahawk gets there? That would be useful. I did that in WC3 once with a transport i was escorting and i knew that a corvette was waiting for us.

Using a navmap during a battle defeats the 'reality' of the situation. You can use the navmap, study whos attacking who, in the heat of the battle, yet it stops the battle.

The action and heat of the battle is caused by the confusion!

That's too strange, I can't use the zoom function in WCP. Everytime I click on it, nothing happens, only the large grey cross in the middle disappears. In SOPS the map works very fine and is indeed very useful.

In WC3 you also get orders with the navmap. In the last mission of Wc3 before you get to the last navpoint the map says "cloaking on". So if you cloak and then activate the autopilot, there are not so many ships there as normal.

redwolf: What reality are you talking about? If WC were real the Wasp pilots would ignore the harmless fighters and take out the torp bombers ASAP with their Swarmers. In other words it would be near impossible for the bugs to even scratch Midway's paint. If WC were real you wouldn't need to worry about your wingmen bouncing off each other shields when getting into formation. And they'd attack the capship missiles instead of leaving it up to you. Reversely when defending Seahawk the Mantas would ignore you and your mates and pump their missiles into Seahawk ASAP, thus making that mission into a real SOB.

The Nav map zoom function zooms in the view to the current nav point. If there is only one nav point (just the Midway)the view is already zoomed so the zoom button does nothing.

Oh, and in that last mission of WC3 if you don't cloak when the nav map says before flying to the next nav point, you can't win the game.

Me too. Making missions using the simulator is easier, but you miss out on extras like this, I guess.

I noticed that too, took me a while to figure it out. Press 'Z' in the WCP map. I think the zoom button works okay in SO. Must be an insignificant bug they missed or couldn't be bothered fixing.

To be fair, I remember my wingmen shooting at cap ship missiles but I can't recall if it was in WCP or SOPS.

And Wedge: Thanks a lot! It's the "Y" key in my case, but now it functions properly. :D (I Could have figured it out earlier ;) )
