Never played WC2

Who survived the passing of the Tiger's Claw and who didn't has been subject to a little debate recently. IF that thread is still up it would answer all your questions but I doubt it is.
I won't say this is the comprehensive list because . . . well . . . let's face it, it's not, but I'll give you a few.
Blair - out on patrol
Angel - Wing commander TCS Austin
Spirit - don't know how she survived
Maniac - he was sent to a mental health facility if I remember correctly after the whole Sivar dreadnaught incident.
Paladin - another don't know but it probably had to do with Secret Ops
Hunter - don't know why but he survived until just before the battle of Terra
Some random pilots who show up throughout the novels that Blair remembers from the times "before the Claw incident"
Shotglass - some speculation that he was somewhere else also arose in the previous thread, thouhg this may just be my rusty memory
That's all I can think of off the top of my head. others will chime in and give you a few more and some reasons.

I think Hunter survived because he had been attached to Covert Ops temporarily.
Its in Freedom Flight, the Claw was headed for Enigma Sector.
Can anyone guess where it was headed?

yup its stated in wc2 it was on its way to attack K'Tithrak Mang.
But Doomsday and Jazz also survived..
perhaps DoomsDay and Jazz, Spirit etc were out on patrol?
Also I take it Halcyon was killed during the attack also? What of Iceman? I never remembered him being heard of again.. and I have never played WCP too see if Casey mentions him..

... Well, Iceman didn't go with the Tiger's Claw. Yes, it's revealed (in slight detail) in WCP.

Hawk tells Casey about Iceman's death in WCP. Apparently, Hawk stuck around long enough for Iceman to kick it, and then took off before the 'Claw was destroyed.
As an aside, the opening of WC2 states that they were heading to K'Tithrak Mang. Yeesh.
I've not played any of SM2, so I don't know where everyone was at the given moments other than Blair. But I never knew that Jazz was on the 'Claw. I remember Blair first meets Colson on the Concordia, isn't that right?

Couldn't have been. Perhaps after the Firekka Crusade (if you remember, Maniac was you wingman in the last mission series of SM2), since they were originally there for a rest while escorting diplomats, a relatively easy job, no doubt.

Between the games, but *after* the destruction of the Tiger's Claw. He's among the pilots who regroup and head to the Austin in the WC1/2 Guide.
Maniac was sent to the psych ward onboard the Austin after SM2.
Pretty much everyone was on patrol, according to the official guide -- they were stretched too thin for Blair to have a wingman.

Casey mentions that he dies (in the B'Shriss system), but not *when* he died. It's after the Tiger's Claw went down.
The 'Claw was destroyed during Hunter's vacation *after* his work with Special Ops.
I'll dream up a list later on when I'm more awake.

Remember that Blair wasn't grounded. He was transferred to a different, less important, branch. They had enough evidence to make him look suspicious, but not quite enough to prove that he'd done anything wrong, so they shoved him into a spot where any damage he could cause would be minimized.
If he'd been permanently grounded, then WC2 would have been a VERY different game...
From the sound of things, Blair and Hawk were part of the same squadron at the time. Iceman happened to be fighting in the system, and was forced to eject. Blair's unit found Iceman's pod, and since Blair was probably in charge of the fighter unit (like he appears to be at Caernavon station), it fell to Blair to write home to Iceman's widow.

You're really reaching there...
Ships still travel through "backwater" sectors (like one that Blair would be assigned to) and still get raided there. The expalination of Iceman's death coresponds to this because the time it took to kill him and the way they toyed with him would be products of very bored Kilrathi, hence they being assigned to a backwater system.

* According to one of the WC3 newsbriefs, the Kilrathi had a practice of desecrating such captured corpses and then dropping them off in Confed space to be found -- a form of psychological warfare.
* Hawk never actually says *he* was involved in the mission that found Icemans body. Just that he knew Iceman and that Blair had brought back the body.
