I just installed privateer 2 on my computer (P4, 2.6Ghz, 512 MB RAM, Win XP). It seems fine when I start but when I open the PAD (exit the bar), the game freezes and I can't move my mouse. Please help. Thanks

I've downloaded the speed patch which is suppose to help the mouse I think, but when I download it I get message saying the patch is corrupt. Is there another way of getting it?

I've downloaded the files but when I try to get the speed patch I get an error message saying the compressed file is corrupt/invalid. When I tried using the win95 patch I found I could not install the game, but it installed fine without it. The only problem I have is the mouse. It just seems to lock up when I use the PAD. It works fine in the bar.

So, the file you donwloaded from that site I pointed is corrupted? did you try it again?
Sincerely, it doesn't seem to be a mouse problem. And it alos appears to be a problem with your machine.

ok, I've managed to use the patch and the mouse is fine but now the sound and music are messed up. It seems that when I install the game, I can't select my sound or music card. Any help?

We are already trying to help you, why did you open a new thread? it makes thing more confusing for other people with the same difficulties.

Actually, the same thing happened to me: the install program would only let me select the installation directory. No selection for music or sound. Sound works in the game, but there's no inflight music. Not that P2's music was particular renowned, but I guess I should try to get the music working some day.

Funny now that you mention it, i don't know if the music plays in flight. I'll test it now.

UPDATE:
True, no music on space. Well, it didn't matter anyway... I never missed it

I only knew there was music because I initially installed the original DOS version on an older (Win98) computer [and even then, configuring music and sound was a bit of a bother], and played it in DOS. No wavetable synthesis, but at least the MIDI inflight music came through clearly. Only made a couple of flights before sticking with the Windows version on my new computer.

Here is what happens, when I install it with the win95 patch, firstly at the installation screen, the screen seems to be blacked out and I have to move my mouse bvack and forth to "clear" the view.
Then when I play the game the music and speech get jerky. What happens is during the start of the game, the cut scenes..etc, the sound is fuzzy and broken. When u go into Sinners bar, and talk with the bartender the sound is fuzzy and the speech is jerky.

When I install it without the patch, then the mouse problem starts (and it only happens when I open the PAD, everywhere else its fine). The music and speech is fine.

How can you tell if the version you have is the Windows version. When I insert my CD it pops up with a menu that says, among other things, shortcut to DOS. Is that the DOS or Windows version. I read somewhere that if you have the Windows version, then all you need is the speed patch.

I tried opening the speed patch in the cmd window and it said that the file type was mismatched, what does that mean?

Your version is DOS, but if you follow the instructions in the page i linked to the letter, it turns into the Win9x version. It so happens that you can't configure the sound card in the Win9x version because it just uses DirectX to handle the sound. For some strange reason, the space music simply does not play. Personally I couldn't care less, it was not really that good to begin with, but probably other people want it to play. I don't know how to solve that.

It seems that you DIDN'T really read the documents on the page I linked, the answers to many of your other questions are there.

I did everything in the page. I copied my disk 1 to my hard drive, then downloaded the full patch ( win95, speed ,and launcher), extracted the contents then moved them into the folder (replacing the old install.exe with the new install.exe, old dark.exe with the new dark.exe...etc.. and also adding the .dll stuff) then I used the new install.exe and installed the game. The site says that I can install straight fom the hard drive so thats what I did. I'm not burning a cd unless it works the first time. If I'm missing something please tell me. As far as I know thats all the steps to follow.

I really don't care for the music, but the game is still jerky with the sound. I tried turning everything off except for the animations and video and there is still that jerky sound.I just updated my directX yestarday but there is no difference
