Jazz wasn't a surprise to me because if you friendly fire him (with no enemies present) he's the only one that doesn't say something like "oh damn, you're the traitor!" -- I think he says "hey you're trying to kill me" instead.

Not sure if anyone else noticed this. I had a LOT of time on my hands when I was playing WC2 the first time....

Hobbes was representative of the redeeming qualities of the Kilrathi--he "humanized" the enemy, revealing them as people and not merely as conquerers.

I think this is a major contributing factor. Sure, there are others such as Kirha, but Hobbes was the only Kilrathi defector visible in the games.

Instead, Origin thought it was more interesting to use the limited CD space to include the stupid elevator going up and down...

And if they didn't include those transition scenes, people would complain about the lack of immersion. What can you do?

I think the decision to remove the Hobbes scenes was half out of necessity (60 minute CDs) and half for creative reasons -- at the time, they felt that Hobbes' defection explained itself. That he couldn't bear to see Kilrah destroyed and that he went back because of that...

Of course, everyone complained that it seemed so out of the blue, so future ports of WC3 had the Hobbes scene where possible.

I'll have to agree that the overlay story was a bit bogus, a nice little stopgap for whiners who underestimate what people (or Kilrathi in this case) are capable of when pushed far enough.

My biggest surprise/shock was finding out a porn star was in charge of my T-bolt's upkeep!

Speaking of easter eggs, has anyone ever heard the rumor of one in the Peleus jammer missions in WC4? I'd read about it somewhere several years ago, but was never able to find anything.

Alas the WC games aren't very blessed with easter-eggs. =(

It's been so long I can't even remember the details. There was mention of two or three hidden/extra cinematic scenes, but from the looks of things all this was merely a rumor.

After you win the game, after the credits roll, there's an extra cinematic scene where Maniac turns to Flint just after Blair walks off camera and says "Wasn't he the guy from Star Wars?"

I'm not sure if that's the easter egg you were referring to, but that's the closest thing I found to one in WC3.

Yes, it was taken from WC3: Behind the Screens. Not the easter egg I was looking for, but as was stated before, you can't really expect too many of them in WC...

There's a couple of easter eggs at the end of Special Operations 2 with the credits. During the credits, you see Colson's helmet floating through space. If you wait until after the credits, you see Maniac having ejected from his Morningstar, with him saying "Guys? Maverick? Anybody there? Where’s S&R when you need ’em?" The speech is a little diffirent I think, it says "Guys? Maverick? Anybody there? Where the hell are you?"

I don't really count any "post-credits" cinematics as easter eggs. To me, an easter egg is something clandestine you have to go out of your way to find. IMO the *closest* example of an EE in the WC games would probably be the unscripted pirate bases in P1, but even that's pale in comparison to those found in other games.

Something you have to go out of your way for? As i understood it, easter eggs were something like finding a Street Fighter poster in Resident Evil, or seeing canisters with the Umbrella logo (Umbrella was a company who made bioweapons in the Resident Evil games) in Dino Crisis.

I had to vote for Angel's death. I mean, the first time you see it you've got to know that she's going to die, but I, at least, had some little hope in the back of my mind that ole Thrakky would keep her alive to bait Blair with. By the time I find out in character, though, I'm so shocked because I've gotten so into the game by this point. No matter how many times I play it, I'm still surprised.

Hobbes being a personality overlay came a really, really close second. I always flew with him as my wingman, always. He was my absolute favorite to fly with 'cause I trusted him and knew he could get the job done. Even before I read the book, I thought the spy was someone else, probably Cobra. When he defected, it surprised the hell out of me. Personally, I always chased him down and blasted him straight to hell. I remember thinking when I saw Cobra bleeding all over my hangar deck: "Well... That rules her out."

The closest thing to an 'Easter Egg' I know of is the hologram in SO. Look around the Cerberus hologram and click on sphere hovering near it. I'm sure most people already know about it.

Also, type CHICKEN while Blair is typing his name into the computer aboard the Lexington. Pressing a certain combination of keys at the log-on screen on the Victory yields a similar thing.
