It's not about having the idea, it's about taking the time to actually undertake such an complex project. It involves first and foremost a very precise "mapping" of the EXE, wich is a big like decoding the human genome. Your can't just ask: "I wonder why nobody ever had the idea to fix every genetic desease by altering our DNA ?"

That's an odd question. Origin itself planned to add multiplayer to Prophecy, and people have been asking for something like this for years. As Pete said, it's a matter of nobody being able to do it, not somebody who had an idea to do something.
