Jump Point pause w/ 1024MB?

Just a curiosity - most, but not all, of the time when I hit "j" there is a brief pause (HD access, I believe) before the jump point animation begins. This seems odd, as I have 1.5GB of physical RAM, and the game is on the "1024MB" setting.

Windows XP SP2, Task Manager showing that there's plenty of free RAM (and Privateer Remake isn't taking up anywhere near a GB), Norton Antivirus, TightVNC Server with no connections, RC5 client, Firefox, misc other.

Happens with me, too, and I also use 1024MB. I don't think it's a memory problem - the engine has to generate a new system when you jump in. This means it is figuring out who is there, why they are there, if they are going to shoot at you or not, etc. I think it's simply the CPU chugging away for the most part, with a bit of hard drive access to load ship and base models/textures.

JKeefe's right...
I also don't cache bases, only starships...
maybe there are bases you hvaen't visited before

I've seen the same problems with 768 MB ram, and I've found this helps speed the pauses up, if not eliminate them entirely.
Run defrag, and disable your firewall and antivirus before you start the game.
