if you could design a wing commander game

THat would be a cool deeply intricate type game. Though i dont think the Kilrathi had to worry about taxes and money. Maybe for their side of the game, it would deal with Clan diplomacy, positioning and resource appropriations. Gaining loyalty and therefore larger resources and things like that.
 
I think I would like to mix the story of Wing Commander with the detailed mission structure and play style of Starlancer. I'm not quite sure how I would do this, but I would love to take the best of both these games (well, WC is more than one) and make something wonderful.
 
I was just thinking about this last night while waiting for Futurama to come on...

Anyway, if I had the authority and money to make two WC games, they would be:

Wing Commander: The Pilgrim Wars
This would, of course, take place during the Pilgrim Wars and would try to peice together all of the different sources into this game (a Confed database accessible in the barracks would give an overview of Confed/Pilgrim history and try to set right things that the movie got a little confused, such as the starting date for the Kilrathi War). In my imagination, you'd fly under Arnold Blair and Geoffrey Tolwyn in the Grand Fleet, until the final battle with the Pilgrim Alliance. That would put all of those "The movie doesn't fit in with the games" naysayers in their places. :)

Wing Commander 6 (tentative title)
The obvious continuation of Prophecy. In my imaginatinon, it would take place five years later, and Casey, now a Major and head of the Nephilem Defense Force, finally cracks the mystery of the Stellar Accretion Device in Proxima and mounts an expedition with Maniac, Stilleto, Zero, and Maestro at his side. I'd throw in a Kilrathi pilot and a Firekkan pilot (Lahrri [sp?] perhaps?) for the hell of it.

Man, I think too much about this stuff. :)
 
Oh yeah, a game where you fight for the Kilrathi would be great. It would be challenge too, as your ship for once would be total crap and you have way superior enemy fighters. Unless it takes place in WC1 or before, where the sides arew more or less equal.
 
Heres my two.

Privateer:Forever

This would contain a single player story invloveing puzzles, FPS and space simulation. Think of Wing commander mets deusex. Then i would release if it hit a free online multiplayer community game using ads placed in chat zones and in game billboards (not to much that it pisses everyone off). The story could continue involving Lunchrich(sp?) or maybe something else???? (ps same game with both components in it)

Wing Commander 6:Darkness

Now the lossing ideas sound great but to much like fs. So how about a Confederation/kilrathi joint operation which starts with a decent big battle involving every ship and decent bug AI so that we get a better feal, then they find out about the bugs and so on. (We should have a new post on where the Bug story can go.) Also with a ship and mission editor as standard which would be intergrated to allow BATTLE COMMANDER an online component where each player could have control fleets or just ship dogfights ala battlezone. The commopment of BC ships would come from the community so as to lower costs.

Well there you go two outlines for the next level of wing commander break as it should ever rule.
 
Game ideas

I have posted this before but I think a Flight sim/FPS would be cool. Imagine flying around in space and coming across a derelict spacecraft. Docking with it and then able to walk around inside of it and explore, salvage, etc. This could also work for ground bases, pirate hideouts etc. I like the idea of a privateer storyline. Maybe make two games with the first being a traditional confed military storyline in which you develop a background and history as a military pilot. During the course of a mission you fail (although completely not your fault) and get kicked out of confed. Next game
you cannot stand not being in space so you strike out as a privateer.
 
YO! EA! Are you listening? We Want a WC game NOW! Don't make me go there!!! :)

People want diversity, and free of choice in the games, so what better style of game for that? Privateer.
 
A privateer type game with both space flight sim and first person prospective elements when you talk to characters, walk around, fly for any orginization. Tons of interactivity, perhaps MMP. ANYTHING!!! :)

Yeah, it would HAVE to be a continuation of Privateer. A NEW one.

Mine would be:

Privateer 3: Invasion

A merchant in the heavily patrolled Vega sector becomes a Privateer, trafficing in Nephilim artifacts. New ships, upgradable to military (and beyond) standards. A big part of the plot would be selling Nephilim artifacts to a big company, then hijacking their research ship and stealing the weapons developed from the artifacts. Imagine blasting away in a sleek, metallic version of the Devil Ray.
 
My game would be set around the time of end run and ending with the Battle of earth. You would play as Kevin Tolwyn.
Also a privateer game set in the Landrich colonies or some other border world nation would be cool.
 
A Privateer role player mix.

Space is treated normally, jump from place to place, trade, fight from the cockpit.

The minute you land, though, it's a first person shooter (not necessarily with a gun in your hands all the time), such that, for example, you walk out of your ship and into the commodities exchange, make trades with the machine therein, then leave. And perhaps you'll run afoul of some mercs that want to kill you, you have to escape them, or kill them. Though killing them would likely bring city guards or whatever. Or maybe not. =)

But rather than a shoot 'em up, it'd be a role player. You've got mad skillz that you can move around at the beginning. Maybe you could focus on training, maybe you could be a better pilot, etc.

Keep in mind that I had this idea about seven years ago, and it was originally meant for the Star Wars universe, so you could do cool shit like land on a Star Destroyer and supply the Empire or something. It's also more of an MMOG outset. If it were gonna be single player the role playing stuff might be less necessary. Or not. Oh well.

I think it'd be cool, though. You make a deal with Roman Lynch for a bunch of arms that the Confeds are running out of. You have to blast your way out of Roman's personal loading area since you "forgot" to pay, and manage to get out into the darker regions to make covert trades aboard a confed carrier so that high command doesn't need to ask questions about a sudden influx of arms....

Sound good? I thought so.
 
Ya, sounds good, considering I came up with the FPS idea eons ago in another thread. Do manual landings, actually get out of your ship in a FPS prospective, walk around, move items around, chat with characters, maybe even a fist fight or two in a bar!! Pick up stuff, carry to your "cargo capable" ship, etc. Fly for any orginization or as a privateer or whatever. Combine all that into a MMP and I think it will kick serious butt!!

I'd like to see a Privateer that's kind of like Tachyon: The Fringe, but with a better storyline.

I'm playing that game now and I'm having a blast.

What players want!!

My Wing Commander game would be Wing Commander Freedom it should be a mixture of Privateer 1,Frontier Elite,X-WING Alliance !!

It should be possible to work for Confed, Pirates ,Trading Companies, Rebels(Bordes Worlds or something like that) or to be a normal Privateer.

There should be at least one complete Sector like Vega,Gemini or Solar Sektor or even the entire known galaxy of Wing Commander.

Cockpits should be drawn like in WC3 or Privateer1.

Most players like to decide by their own if they want to fly with a cockpit or not.I know Origin saves a lot of work and money if they don`t implement Cockpits.Thats what i found very poor of Prophecy and WC4!!

There should be a possibility to make money by doing different things ,like going to a Casino or selling information or even spying for Confed or the Kilrathi!!!

How about working for the Confed Navy as long as your character hasn`t got enough money to buy his own ship.

Or you could even steal a fighter from Confed land on a Planet or moon and sell it there or work for pirates from now on!

For example you work on a Confed carrier you can walk through the ship and talk to people you go to the mission briefing and start your mission you fly to the first waypoint and boom you kill your wingman change the coordinates for the next waypoint and then you fly to a Kilrathi carrier or so and from now on you work for the Kilrathi or you are beeing killed by them because they think you have no honour!!

Animated Cutscenes,CGI

It should be possible to gain a reputation,to be promoted ,to marry or to inherit from someone!!!

It would be wonderfull if you could choose your clothes and if you could paint on your starship

or just choose the colour of it !!

It should be possible to go to prison if you encounter Confed or the Militia if you are a pirate.

It`s boring to get destroyed all the time if you can`t handle too many enemy fighters therefore it should be possible to surrender!!

That you could land on a planet, that the computer draws an line of entry and if you don't fly the line of entry you burn up! once you are on the plant you should have a few bases or airports to land on.

If you have to land on the midway let someone tell you where you acctually have to land, left or right bay.

Changing weather on planets.(rain,snow,clowds a.s.o...)

-To fly expedition missions where you have to discover new starsystems
-Rescue and Science Missions
-It should be possibble to establish his own transport Company
The existing Starsystems should have more atmosphere and special Landmarks.
for example On earth you can find the Great Government of Confed and on a Pleasure Planet you can find a big Casion or something else every Planet should be a bit different to the others !
-Another Music System /More Atmospheric music than real music. You should have the feeling to be acctually there!!

I like the idea of having the entire WC universe sectors as well as the Kilrathi sectors and the dreaded "bug" sectors. One huge galaxy to roam and trade in!!

why do you think i called it privateer:Galaxy?
all the WC universe including nephilm space and beyond.
the painting your own ship sounds cool.
but too many cutscenes would take up alot of room. unless the game is on DVD or sumpthin.

WING COMMANDER UNIVERSE

I wish to create a Privateer 3 if you will, only it will be unlike any game you have ever played, or will ever play, it will be based entirely off of the Wing Commander Series, It will be set durinng the Terran-Kilrathi War. What makes this ambitious is that within the game, you will be able to go ANYWHERE IN THE ENTIRE WING COMMANDER UNIVERSE! It will have the entire universe map from Prophecy fully integrated into it. You will be able to buy almost anyship you were allowed to fly in the Wing Commander games as well as a few Kilrathi ships you weren't, I loveed the Wing Commander cockpits (didn't we all), so I'm going to bring them back, I will also include the option to switch off the cockpits if you prefer that. The game will allow the player great freedom, yet it will adhere strictly to the Wing Commander timeline, there will be a dating system used, so if you were to visit say, the Goddard colony on a date before it was destroyed, you would find the Goddard colonists peacefully going about there business, you would even be able to land there, but if you visited Goddard after that terrible day in history, you would find it levelled! I will also make it so that if you visit Goddard on the exact date it was destroyed, you will get to see the colony get completely levelled! This sort of history in your face style, will be used throughout the game, If you happened to be in the system where the Behemoth is test firing, you will see it level a planet, at the same time you will told to leave the system immediately by Confed pilots patrolling the surrounding area. You will be able to purchase guns, and upgrades for your ship, you will even be able to go to the BLACK MARKET! where you will be able to purchase items deemed illegal by confed, There will be a bounty hunters, and merchants guilds as well as others when I've decided on them, there may even be a Pirate's guild. It will be based off of the privateer style game, but it will use a completely new engine with full 3d graphics and sound, I have yet to decide if I will include characters, You will be able to hire your services out to confed, private owners, pirates, even the Kilrathi, yes this game will take the privateer concept even further, you will be able to work for the Kilrathi against the rest of Humanity! I need lot's of help with this game, I need researchers, programmers, graphics artists, anyone who can donate stuff is welcome, I will continually work on this project, I will not let it die. It is my wish to see Wing Commander thrive, and with this game I hope to achieve that goal, I would like to make it multiplayer comatible, and maybe even in the far off future make it into a fully online game, I don't think it would be feasible but.... I am already designing artwork for the game, so if anyone can donate stuff........ I need cockpits people, lot's of cockpit's I have them for terran wing commander 2 ships, and I can get them for Wing Commander 1 it will take some time though, I would like to get some wing commander 3 cockpits as well as some Kilrathi ones, I would like to use the existing privateer 1 and wing commander 1&2 cockpit's, but I also need wing commander 3 cockpit's I want all the cockpit's to have the same detail level, which means I need to either downgrade the Wing commander 3 cockpit's or else upgrade the wing commander 1&2 cockpits. I have got all the planets ready, I have a mesh of earth and one of Kilrah, any other planets can be created with the Axion planet shader plugin for truespace 4.3 It generates planets quickly and easily. Make it so that you could purchase not just one ship but as many as you want. Just include the Centurion and a Gothri! ;)
