Ideal WC movie style.

What kind of ships and uniform do you liked to see in the movie?
WC1 style?
WC2? WC3&4? Super Wing Commander? Or 1999 movie itself?

Here we go again...

I think it's a perfectly fair question as long as people aren't using it as a springboard for movie hating crap. But I should warn that this kind of topic pretty much invites a discussion of what came before (IE the movie). I'd love to see another WC movie. I'm not so certain that we'll be seeing it any time soon... we're more likely to see another game before we get to that point.

I'd definitely like to see something realistic feeling as far as costumes go along the lines of what we see in WC2 and Space: Above and Beyond. I kind of like the capships in the WC movie. The concept of subs in space is interesting though I'm not sure it was entirely the right direction for the Claw. I like the whole battleship utilitarian look with the low ceilings and exposed pipes and inards.

I'd love to see a movie of End Run. It's the best book in the series, IMHO, and a good piece of science fiction in general.

Either WC1 or WC2 style...probably WC1 the most: it was gritty enough and yet sc-fi enough for me. WC2 looked nice but maybe a bit too colourful for a movie.

I agree. End Run is spectaculer, as a novel as well a film.

But the book has two parts, and the second part has far more action the first.

Which one will the movie focus on?

I like the combination of WC1 and WC2. It's nice to see some of the decorations that go with securing achievement in battle. I liked the uniforms in the movie as well - reminds me of a military school, where you have different style uniforms for different occasions. Some are quite clean and utilitarian in appearence, while others provide for insignia, etc.

As for the ships, yeah, I tend to agree with keeping them on the edge of scrappy inside - exposed pipes, etc. Much of the conflict with the Kilrathi bordered on the desperate, so that look and feel definitely fits into the broader theme (not saying a future movie has to focus on the Kilrathi, mind you...:) )

The first part isn't really necessary to the main story, but you could start the movie towards the end of Milk Run - say, when Ramona is on her recon run and the Johnny Greene is fighting the diversionary action. Close with Johnny Greene fighting her way to the jump point, and jumping out just before the Kilrathi missles hit her. Then roll the credits, and segue into the opening of End Run - a shot of Jason's Ferret turning toward the Tarawa.
This would open the movie with a bit of action before delving in to the meat of the story, and set the tone. Johnny Greene's mission would be explained later, at the briefing after Vukar Tag. This would eliminate the need to show all off milk run, and provide the opening hook for those who don't know the story.
As for the bright colors of WC2, I think Klavs has the right idea with his models - the Confederation Changed their paint schemes sometime between SO2 and WC3, and his models reflect that well - overall grey with relatively subtle colors.
(On a side note, I love his design of Tarawa's flight deck - it reflects both the novel's descriptions and a current blue water carrier's flight deck and hanger bay layout)

As for the style, gritty fits the bill - WC3 and especially the movie had the right look for a desperate, always-on-the-egde-of-losing Confederation ships. The submarines in space was interesting, but IMO to great a departure from the games for many fans.

Agreed, the sub design was an interesting concept for fans to muse over, but too far detached from the battleships of the games - particularly those in WC3 & WC4.

I don't think WC4 had come very far from WC3 in terms of big ship design, it sits much closer to its predecessor than it does to Prophecy IMO. I loved the feeling of really being 'back to base' when you return to the Victory with all of her rugged escorts sat around her. I played the mission to escort the Coventry and Ajax against Kilrathi capships over and over again.

WC4's battered Intrepid looked good, too...

Interpid really took the dark gritty desperate feel to a new level. The flight deck looks a lot like the Nimitz's hanger halfway through cruise.
