Wing Commander CIC

Is there anyplace on the CZ where the meaning of the "envelope icons" is explained?... I posted some time ago asking about the "wax seal" graphic, but find myself wondering about the other ones I see occasionally, For example, there's a graphic where the envelope is opened and the "letter" is half sticking up from within. What dat mean?...
