How do I land on the bloody carrier

I checked the manual and nothing there, so:

How do I land on the carrier after a mission in wc1 ks ? My fighter just keeps crashing into it and I've pressed all the buttons.,

cheers

Have you got permission to land? Unlike WCP the first games needed you to get landing clearance before juts swooping into the carrier bay.
Hit T until the carrier is targetted, then C for comms and 1 for "request landing clearance".

The original game is also unique in that you need to be facing the 'front' of the carrier.

You need to position yourself so the carrier looks like the view in the upper left side of this image.

Loaf beat me to it, but yeah, you need to make sure you are facing the front of the carrier and make sure to use your communications ("c") to request permission to land first. I'd also suggest that you come in slow just in case you do hit the carrier...

Ah many a happy time i remember in my childhood where i'd try to land by coming up from the bottom, or find myself stuck behind the engines.

Another problem i had was that i got it into my head that you had to reduce speed to 20KPS to land, (which took a while).

Oh well, enough reminiscing.

You can also land by coming in when the carrier loks like it does in the middle of the picture. At least i think you can.

The Tiger's Claw doesn't need to be exactly head-on, but you can't just fly into the side as pictured there. You need to be angling into the hangar bay.

Hmm, now that i think about it, i believe that there was another angle, kind of a mix of the middle and top right picture, you could land facing that.

Then again it was 12 years ago. All these pixelated angles made no sense to my 6 year old brain. Either way its better to stick with the top left one.

front of the tigers claw...i remember back then when it was so annoying.
but then I remember in WC2 when you had to target the Concordia and it didnt matter if you in front of it just had to be in a certain distance before I can land sometimes when I get clearance I still could not land...it was so frustrating back then

Good thing that reaching the Claw would kill any pursuers. Saved my life once or twice, before I got any good.

Those big pixels got pretty confusing whenever you had to dogfight around her, though. Like in that losing-track mission when you face 6 gratha on a Hornet. One'd think that Halcyon prized his ship a lot better than sending 2 hornets do fend off 4+2 Gratha.

True but it was a darn fun mission. To be honest I think a lot of the losing track missions were more fun than the winning ones. (Remember the mission where you have to save Valkrye in a Hornet?)

Nothing with 2 lasers and a paltry missile loadout is fun from my point of view... a challenge yes, but when you're escorting something that tends to die if you don't ram things to death really quickly it feels like there's too much luck required.

And don't even think of losing a laser during one of the rammings.

I guess I've never been a fan of games where you have to poke the enemy to death with an annoying little weapon, unless it's an annoying little weapon that can be horribly effective when used in just the right way.

Hmm, I guess I didn't notice the twin Hornet lasers were that ineffective in the game. It was more than adequate to deal with the Dralthi. Defending the Claw in a hornet against those gratha was pretty tough though! :) Still, I remember that one almost as well as the mission to protect the Exeter class ship from those four Jalthi. That was a tough one but at least you had the beautiful Raptor. :) I also remember that great mission on the losing track where you had to escort the Drayman back to the claw because it was the entertainment for the troops...that was a toughie!

And if you consider that I ended up on that "Defend the Claw against Gratha in a hornet" misson because I really sucked in 1992, then it gets even more difficult.
