I'm Thinking about writing a Fan-Fiction Story focused on a Landriech Wing Commander named Flight Captain Nick "Banshee" Slate but don't which era would be best?

I'd advise you set the story during the Kilrathi War era. There was more action at that time.

I think the time shortly after the Kilrathi War would be very nice. Lots of pirates, difficult politic situation.
