Help in UE mission

Hello! Before everything I would really want to thank the crew for making such a great game!!! Overall I think this is an excellent piece of software.

The mission I have trouble is on the one when I have to escort the Dauntless to the Beaufort, grab some supplies and crew and go with the Fralthi to the asteroid field (mission 8, I believe). Now, when I have to check out the "massive reading" at NAV 3, the Mantas always have a teeth at me when the jamming thing stops my ship (doesn't allow me to turn anywhere). Is there any way to finish this mission other than dying or ejecting (which equals to dying in this mission ;) ) or actually going through the fight?

Thanks a lot for any help!

Ronald

On of the buoys is causing the jamming, destroy it quickly then kill the fighters.

Any way to know which one is doing the jamming? I tried shooting one but nothing happenned, it just took lots of shots and it still remained there! Normally I play on Ace but in this part I had to change to Rookie. And still got killed!

HEEEELLLLPPPP!!!!!

Well Ronald

I know I cannot tell you which buoy it is but here are a few hints as to how to find out. 1st close to a buoy. And see if gryhon dies at that one. If he does and looked at the map as to which one it was in position to the others, then all you need to do is find it quickly and blast and finish the fight.

Thanks soo much! I had to use Rookie along with ddebug mode to get through it.. (first time I had to use that)... I know, it takes all the exciting thing, but I wanted to get past that mission! Now, I'll try to do it again..

It is possible to kill the fighters first. The buoy´s activity is intermitent, so you have your ship almost fully operational for a few seconds between every jamming.

Pay close attention to your radar. It does show a lot of red dots, but it still works in a way that some of the dots are actually the enemy ships. Before being jammed, put an enemy on your sight, identify the dot in the radar that correspond to it and don´t lose track of that dot: when you come out of the jamming you´ll find the enemy faster and then just release your viper cannons and DFs at it.

It´s not easy, but it is possible. It is harder to try to find the correct buoy before the jamming starts, I think.

I still think that mission was pretty tough... but I guess I'll have to live with it.. ; )

There's another mission where I get stuck... When I have to escort the avenger to the jump point, at NAV 1 I'm told to kill the aliens before they contact their base. Now, I kill them as fast as possible, but I always get "Failed" in the objectives screen... Any tips on this?

You have to kill the Ray and the Morays very fast. Ignore the remoras until the end. The best way of handling this is to order your wingmen to go after one Moray while you go after the other. Go after the Ray only after the Morays are dead - you can ignore the Remoras, but your wingmen probably won't.

Thanks!! I think the game could have beena bit more explicit about that... (Don't worry, I still think this is a waaay cool game!) ; )

Well, it adds depth and challenge if you're not told what to do - just like in real life.

Hey I always hated that mission....who`s Idea was it ? Pedros ? :p

Its the only mission that made me decrease difficulty from Nightmare to Ace and still couldnt complete it for a long time....I still cant complete UE in Nightmare (shame TigersClaw :( )
Damn,Wc4 and UE are tough WC games :D

Yeah. Yep, all the bad things in UE are Pedro's fault, everything else is thanks to me.

...No, I wasn't being serious ;).

I think the mission was kind of a joint idea. Somebody suggested using alien buoys, and then somebody came up with the idea of jamming. The rest of the mission had already been thought up earlier, since getting the Dauntless into the asteroid belt is pretty important for the K'ha'haf mission.

Programming it was my responsibility however, as was adding fake buoys I think (originally I believe we just had the one buoy). So sorry if its a bit hard, oddly enough no one wanted to tackle that mission because of the jamming however I found that the easiest bit to code in that mission.

If I had to do it all over again I'd reduce the hit points of each of the buoys and place them further from the player when you get to that nav, other than that I was rather happy with how it turned out.

If I had to do it again, I think I'd actually go along with what some people here have suggested in the past few months - I'd make it into two separate missions.

Or atleast put the jamming first, we had a tendancy to end long missions with an insanley difficult section.

That would be cool... Because, getting killed in such a way after all the mission.... :'(

(Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed a lot the game! but that part was a bit too tough, I guess..)

Anyone remember that mission in WCP where you had to take out that dreadnaught? you couldn't save in between two missions

Yeah, my brother hated that mission because the game, back several years ago on another machine , would crash sometimes and you could olny get half done. He finally got past that mission and there haven't been any serious problems with our newer machine we've gotten. But there is still that fast video sequences that still don't work right even with 0 sound acceleration.
