Help Available From Alcor to Venice (March 26, 2010)

There's been an uptick in fans asking questions about Wing Commander missions lately, and that's a great thing! While all manner of discussion involving tactics, strategies, tips and tricks are always encouraged at the CIC Forums, there is also a quick reference available. The Game Guide Section, CIC Teal, provides mission briefings, nav map diagrams, enemy strength data and helpful hints on some four hundred Wing Commander missions spanning more than a dozen WC games. Below each mission page, fans are also welcome to post their own comments when they have something to contribute. Kris has just upgraded the commenter with a datestamp feature. When you need a little intel, check out the Game Guides section here.

I'd also note that WCPedia has most of the WC1 missions entries uploaded as well. They contain additional briefing material and story content for those interested.

Which mission has Longbows escorted by Arrows? I remember one with Longbows escorted by Hellcats, but I don't remember one with Arrows..

From the looks of that map it's from Hellespont in WC4. (The frigate is at least making me think that...when else do we engage one?)

Granted the ships don't match...but I think that's where it is from.

I thought maybe it was a fan made game since neither the Lexington or the Intrepid missions (that I know of) use Arrows as escorts.

That's the map table screenshot from WC4 that forms the background of the CIC logo. You can download the entire scene at http://download.wcnews.com/files/wing4/hellespont_briefing_dvd.avi

Just goes to show how much attention I paid to the actual wireframes in those briefing animations...

Certainly the renders don't match the actual missions, but it may just be that they originally intended the escorts to be Arrows but changed them to Hellcats in the actual mission later. Much easier for the mission design to change than the FMV.
