HD WC Alert (January 22, 2006)

Your second to last chance to catch HBO HD's showing of the Wing Commander movie in 1920x1080 resolution is coming Tuesday morning. After January there are no scheduled high def air dates for at least a few months. Anyone have any luck getting screencaps or recordings yet?

Yeah, it would be great to get some impressions from anyone who caught the HD broadcasts. Screenshots and/or samples would be even better!

ace is the only staff member who has all the appropriate hardware and a subscription to the channel, but we have had some trouble capturing it.

Did Ace at least get to watch it when it aired?

Would love to hear your comments on the HD broadcast, Ace! Were many new details visible, e.g. on the ship and VDU's or did the film just appear more defined with any seeming fidelity benefit masked by the largely quite dark picture?

That's funny cause other than being in space, I don't find the movie all that dark at all. (there are a lot of dim interiors but they are adequatly lit for film. I find everything on the DVD looks really good actually other than that its not anamorphic -region 1- and they wasted bandwith by encoding the black bars. PLus they didnt use as high a bit rate as they could have so even in DVD there's room for improvement, so the HD broadcast should be extremely nice.

There was a problem with theater projector trying to save money by not using the full amount of bulbs in their projectors during the movies initial theatrical run and hence there were a lot of complaints about not being able to see anything in theaters.
