Unless there are two winning versions, they are killed in the winning version as well, by non-vaporizing bullet wounds. So, win or lose, you get to see them die in the attempt.
 
Of minor consequence, we see Deveraux's teammates being "dissintegrated" in the WC3 intro. Kinda wonder what the hell kinda weapon that actually was.
 
It seemed to be something that was designed for that dedicated purpose. It would make sense that the Emperor's throne room would have a built-in execution device considering the Kilrathi honor system.

I don't think it was a weapon so much as it was an execution device of some sort - the script notes that Thrakhath signals an executioner to activate it.

Yes, that's correct (he's shot by two Kilrathi rifles).

I always thought it to be that "flash incineration" the WCP manual mentions for the Valgard pirates.
