Gunners (Bang, Bang)

What really cheeses me off is the lack of co-ordination between fighters and turret crews during defence missions. When torpedoes are launched there should be an alert sent out to fighters closest to the torp to target it. And the gunners seem so lax in targeting the torps - they usually, if not always, miss!

Yes, that's mostly true but I found the Cerberus' gunners to be rather effective against torpedoes (or at least, more effective than previous gunners).

You're right there, there is a lack of coordination between gunners and fighters, the number of times cerberus' big kick ass plasma cannon has blasted me to smithereens...

Yeah, someone should tell Cerberus' gunners that the Plasmagun is an anti-capship weapon and not a defensive turret.

Don´t you use the plasmagun in the Devastator to destroy the bugs fighters ?

Yes, but I fly the Devastator, not the Cerberus.
On defense missions Cerberus' Plasmagun is sometimes annoying when the turret picks the fighter u chase as target. U kill the fighter, turn around and u are fried.

They must be very sorry for destroying a fighter faster than you, the same fighter that can destroy the Cerberus !, if you can´t kill they fast they can destroy the ship.

If they kill a Nephilim, good, but if they kill me AFTER i vaporized the bug...

And the Plasmagun is not very effective against fast, small craft because the 'bullets' are too slow.

If they can kill a fighter....i think that is effective...just don´t fight near the cerberus.
And they don´t attack you..., the AI is not that smart :)

I know they kill me accidently, but it's annoying.

But enough of this.

The Midway is quite a big ship, so it must have a large energy pool. Don't u think that it has enough energy for better defensive turrets than the crappy capship lasers? The Cerberus is much smaller and has at least two of the far more effective tachyon turrets.

The Midway (being a carrier) relies her defence in Fighters (against other fighters), and destroyers and/or frigates (against other capships), the Midway was alone because was her maiden voyage. the capship turbo lasers may be are crappy but remember that the only thing that can penetrates her shield is a torpedo, and the bugs bombers launches the torp far from the guns range, any fighter (remora, manta, moray or squid) can´t damage the Midway with their guns.

you are wrong there, the nephlim fighters can damage the midway, by blasting her turrets off which aren't shielded, just like you can strip turrets and missile pods off nephilim capships. the nephilim fighters can't inflict any hull damage to the Midway though as their weapons can't penetrate her shields

The escort thing: In most of the WC (at least in those WC games that I own) games the carrier has no or not much of an escort by capships like corvettes and frigates. In WWII the carriers always had a bulk of support ships around them. In WC that would be good too, I think. The attacking fighters and bombers would have to deal with more resistance and the carrier has a higher chance to survive. (but that's only my oppinion, I'm not a tactician:) )

By damage i reffer to the engines, bridge, and maybe hangar, the Midway can survive without the lasers.

In WCIII the Victory had an escort of a cruiser and two destroyers, TCS Sheffield (named after where I live, yay!, TCS Coventry, and TCS Ajax (i think, don't fry me if I am wrong anyone!) The escorts went one on one against an attacking Kilrathi fleet in one defence mission, several destroyers and a light cruiser I think,
"Damn, those Capships blast some fireworks"
It was worth seeing :D

"arrggghh! I don't know that," <is catapulted into pit of doom>
i haven't read the novel, only played the game.

Coventry was Bondarevsky's flagship -- he commanded DesRon-67.

Capships in WC generally *do* have lots of escorts...

Tiger's Claw was a "Strike Carrier", designed to operate alone -- behind enemy lines, even. Still, during a few of her operations she had an escort or served as part of a much larger fleet (SM1.5!).

Concordia generally had a single, high powered destroyer escort, and was flag to a broader fleet.

Victory often had escorts, Coventry, Sheffield and Ajax.

Lexington had escorts -- but Paulson moved the ship away from them when he attacked Intrepid... which was one of the factors behind her disable-ment.

Midway didn't have escorts because she wasn't supposed to be fighting -- during peacetime, Midway class ships are supposed to serve as mobile starbases. During wartime, as the ICIS manual points out, Midway would serve as the center of a battlegroup.
