Gametap edition of Privateer question

Anybody know if the updated Privateer will be released on CD or is it only going out on Gametap?

Only on GameTap. It's not really an updated Privateer. It's the original Privateer playable through the GameTap service. We don't yet know what version of Privateer it'll be.

Is there a forum covering this gametap? Im wondering ( im not up to snuff on high tech stuff here) is this gametap somthing you pay for to keep using the game? Im trying to ask, You cannont download this "new" version of privateer and play it. You have to keep your subscription up to keep playing it?

Yes, you need to have an ongoing subscription to use the games offered via Gametap. The GT client software is pretty much an emulator that calls the actual game data from the GT servers, running it from there (or a local, temporary cache, not sure on that).

THe thing is, your monthly fee isn't just to play pirvateer. You do need to keep your subscription up to dat to be able to play privateer, but that same fee also gives you access to what will eventually be thousands (its in the hunreds right now for sure) of games to play on your PC, and not just PC games either as you will be able to play some older console games on your PC too.

If you are *only* wanting to play privateer It makes more sense to pay a few dollard for a CD on ebay and then figure out how to run it in dosbox.

So you don't download the game and have it on hand whenever you want, like SO, you just play it on the web?

Right. On the web or probably via some custom software application that you download.

too bad its only available in the USA

For now... If it catches on (and with EAs backing there's no reason to think it won't) I'm pretty certain we'll see the service expand internationally.
