Galatic Races

Delance

Victory, you say?
I have the impression that there are more races on the Galaxy interacting in some way with Confed than we really see. This comes for some sources and references, for example:

* Chris Roberts wanted the bar of WC4 to have lots of different aliens (Tattoine?). Not really "canon" since it couldn't be put on film, but still interesting.

* Thrakkath mentions that he want to set an example "to the other races of the galaxy", when talking to the TCS Victory Crew.

* On that novel (forgot the name) some stupid politician dismisses the Kilrathi as a a "third-rate power". Well, that would make more sense if there were some races around for comparison.

Anyone can think of other references?

I don't have my WC novels with me, but the Kilrathi had already gone to war against like five other nations. I do not know between the novels and the games or the movie. I think that Confed describes the Kilrathi as the first major interstellar power.
And in Action Stations Tolwyn, Richards and Turner saw a bunch of aliens at the smugglers port. I think a few of the nations that were destroyed, Hari, Utari can't remember.

I can think of all these references... Nephilim, Double Helix, Steltek, Mantu, Utara, Hari, Varni, Wu, Eyoka, Jarma, Hagarin, Mopok, Firekkan, Gorth, Sorn, Yan, Ka, Shata, Dioscuri, Dolosians, Oasians

Compared to you guys I tend to be a bit rusty, but I only have an interest in the games, and as my number a posts, a plebe.

I'll catch on though, or at least I hope.

Don't worry about it (G) Doesn't matter how many posts you have, as long as... you're not talking about superpolymers. :)

Thanks, TC.

Also, BlackJack had a nice reference of AS. Can anyone else think when "generic" aliens are mentioned, even when they aren't given names?

From WCA:
The blue-skinned people (Payback, Blizzard, etc) and the Frog looking guy from the Trafalgar (Bengal-class) that belittles Blairs flying ability come to mind.

I always figured the weird skinned people were a nod to Known Space. But there are a few other aliens on WCA - the chick with the star on her face and the big pink guys from 'The Last One Left'.

Some of those cases, i wouldnt find it hard to believe that they are actually humans with some sort of cosmetic modification. By the 27th century, dying your skin or changing the color of your eyes will be as simple as dying your hair
The neaderthal looking guy reminds me of a Mopok, but I would find it very difficult to believe one could fly a space fighter :)

Different eye, hair and skin colors could also be due to growing in different conditions. Who knows what mutations would happen on the long run to a family that lived in a planet with a different star, atmosphere and gravity?

I think they had blue skin because of a different kind of sun giving a different kind of tan, or some random ambiental factor. No, not very realistic, but that was a morning cartoon show. :)

They are probably humans because there are romantic feelings between blue and "not-blue" people. Inter-species romance is probably (hopefully) not common.

I have never seen Acadamy, but in AS, I got the impression that Confed had alliances with other races, as one of the Kilrathi leaders, (I think Jukaga's father Vakka I think) says something about Confed's allies. I just always assumed that humans were the only "official" race in the Terran Confederation.
Kind of like a war were other political powers only supply equipment.
Even though I have never seen acadamy, I have a feeling that throwing in aliens was a stop gap measure for not having any in the game, get to thank Star Wars, and especially Star Trek for having a menagarie of aliens.
The human augmentation thing is a possibility, and also enviromental changes, (like in the first Battlestar Galactica when the humans born off Terra couldn't return home cause the pressure was different.) Though I do find it hard to believe that man would have adapted (evolved?) so quickly.
Thanks for listening

I thought confed did have alliances with other races in AS they mention that after the kilrathi-varni war 20 years before AS (2614ish?) the varni retreated into confed space...it doesn't seem to be mentioned to often which races confed has strong military alliances with as in the known region of space it seems like the only race we don't have some kind of technological parrallel are the steltek

So, basically, WC turned out to be a clash of the titans, so to speak. The two biggest kids on the playground met up and ended up in a fight.

Kinda seems that way. After bullying the other kids around (I'm sure confed wasn't always seeking peaceful contact with other races, we must have bulldozed a few). But we were the only ones that gave the kats a good fight, as I think it mentions in AS that most other kat wars ended extremely quickly except for the hari war and that was just because of the vastness of hari space.

I have the Varni/Kilrathi war occuring in 2594.

Oh ok, I thought in AS it said it was 20 years prior, I must be getting it confused. I'm thinking of reading all the novels over again as it's been like almost 2 years since I touched any of them. Which reminds me I still have my autographed copy of FC from Andrew Keith before he passed on that he sent me. I don't think I've ever even open the book past the title page where he signed it to keep it in mint condition (it's also in a ziplock bag
:D )

By the way the Kilrathi regarded them, I'd have to say that the Mantu are pretty high on the totem pole, too.

Some races are present in the Wing Commander Academy Series. Most of them were just primitive species that were incapable of space travel.
