I have an AMD 2000 and all those run fine.

Back to Freelancer though. I was very closeminded about the mouse flight until I tried it, and loved it. I can't wait for the full game too come out, because now that I've tasted it I want more. I got just enough money to level up andbuy a Defender heavy fighter when I found out that they stop the demo at level 2.:(

i loved it...

is there a SDK of any kind coming out?

this game demands a quality wing commander story :)

Hi guys, im new here, so sorry if im posting in the wrong forum or somethnig... i followed the link in the WC CIC front page...

Anyway, on Freelancer, i love it :)!!!!

it runs so well in my aging computer at 1600x1200 i cant believe it.... its a P3 933 with 256mb of ram and a Radeon 8500...

on the mouse flight -> its gonna take a while to get fully used to, but i like it...

one question, i havent seen it in the options... is there a "invert mouse" thing anywhere??? ive always played my FPSs in "airplane" mode, now i have a ship to fly and its on up/up down/down mode??? lol...

thanx :)

Honestly, I don't see why people are whining unless they are afraid to learn something new.

Not whining about it, just saying, it takes a little getting used to, especially after years of playing flight and space sims with a joystick. Instinctly reaching for it, looking for the hat switch, rolling to get a better turn rate (a la Panthers and Vampires, admittedly thats not a joystick thing unless you have pedals), that sort of thing. The style of play is quite different.

But if it brings a whole new level of popularity to the genre, then I'm all for it; thats what we need. It looks like a pretty darn good game, and we should all be thankful its here at all.

As for a radar, admittedly Freelancer space is a lot busier than Privateer or WC space, but for the most part, I used it in WC for enemy awareness during a battle, where a quick glance tells you approximate wingmen and enemy numbers, and roughly where there are; it isn't necessary see every single neutral blip or docking ring in the display.

Plus you could have those same icons above the "object list" that let you toggle "Importants, Solars, Ships etc." to allow you to filter the blips on such a radar if you so wanted.

Just a thought, not a whine.

Freelancer runs perfectly at 1024x768x32 with all the options turned up full. I've got 1.8 GHz and a Geforce 3. Sim City 4 and Generals, on the other hand, are often sluggish..

I'm also trying not to go too far into it since my version won't be compatible with the final. I'm also a bit upset about how the servers don't let you carry your characters around. I guess that makes sense, but it'd be nice to build up a nice guy and then have him visit different servers and such. Kinda don't want to start from scratch each time I go somewhere new.

I didn't notice an invert button. I think that might play hell with the game since the cursor also tracks your guns.

I have two computers: A 2.26 ghz 512 mb ram and G4 Ti4600 and a 500mhz 256mb ram with a TNT 2 32 mb card. Right now I'm having troubles with my newest computer (my dad's IT is coming in two days...THANK GOD), so right now I'm running the game on my 500mhz PC. And I have to say that with full detail on 1024x768 32bit mode...the game runs perfectly even with it being below requirements (although processer speed doesn't mean everything). OF course it won't hold a candle to when I'll have my Big Rig back up and running.

Sorry about double posting, but I forgot to say that I absolutley love this game, the wait definetly paid off. What I love most about this game is how big everything is. There are ships coming in and out and it shows that it's an actual working galaxy. KUDOS to Microsoft (Did I actually say that?).

Yes.

I got an Athlon 650 (first version) with a Geforce 3 Ti2000. Demo runs fine at 1024x768, full details. Only slowdowns I noticed had been in some engine cutscenes.

I think it would be more in keeping with the spirit of the game to have the joystick move a gun cursor and let the ship nose follow the gun cursor just as it does in mouse flight.

More in the spirit? Maybe. But very impossible to fly. I tried such joystick implementations in various games and they suck horribly. The joystick just doesn't steer as precisely as a mouse does.

Right now I'm on the trail of a hidden base. I hailed a Junker and he said he was going to Rochester, nowhere on the nav map to my knowledge, and was flying into a debris field. I lost track of him though.

I was playing it last night and saw something hilarious. I was sittin there at Planet Manhattan watching the traffic go by, when this transport convoy came through. It skimmed too close to the planet, so it, and a couple of escorts, went down in flaming glory! I could hear their screams!! Now...that kind of stuff would be all over the nightly news in reality, but in the game, it was funny!:p

The control scheme and viewpoint screamed "console game" to me, but other than that, I thought it was a lot of fun to play. Its a shame that the demo kills itself after such a short period of time, especially since they apparently went ahead and stuffed a lot of equipment into the demo that you can't actually use in the game (I wonder if the data for that equipment is actually loaded in the demo, or if its just a slot on the dealer's list that the programmers decided to leave as a teaser - i.e. if it were somehow possible to reach level 7 in the demo, does the demo have the necessary data files to allow you to use the level 7 equipment?).
It was fun listening to radio chatter that didn't involve you at all. Independence War has had background radio chatter prior to this, but afaik, it was just random noise to make space seem less empty. Freelancer actually allows you to listen to the police performing inspections on nearby ships and similar things. You can hear as the ship you're pounding on calls for support from its squadmates.
I haven't seen some of the odd things others have described, although I did get an offer for information on planet Houston (shades of Superman II? heh heh) for $1500, and an offer to improve my popularity with one of the factions for more money than you can amass in the demo. And the abandoned research station definitely put me in mind of the similar station in Privateer 2.
The one real annoyance had to do with the generic conversation system in bars. It got real old real fast listening to the same "First time here?" lines over and over again. Fortunately, you can skip all of that and jump straight to the useful tidbits of information.
