For Pete's Sake: Last Chance to Enter! (April 27, 2006)

Bandit LOAF

Long Live the Confederation!
The clock is about to strike midnight, Standoff fans: April 28th is the last day to submit a score for PopsiclePete's gauntlet contest. Here's the man himself:
April 28th is coming, Cardinal's the only one who managed to get an high score from Sternenwind: the Hornet score for the Kilrathi gauntlet[/url].

No one else is up to the challenge? Some ships didn't see much scoreboard action and show scores that should be relatively easy to beat: the Ferret for mission 1, for example.

Now's your last chance!

Was anyone else trying to win this contest? After I saw this news post I finally installed the Standoff patch at work and beat a couple scores. When I was looking at the CIC front page 'recent simulator scores', it didn't seem like there were very many people playing.

The ferret (which LOAF mentioned) wasn't too bad, with afterburner fuel being my main concern. The confed gauntlet sabre score I think was easiest to deal with out of Sternenwind's high scores. I think the rest of them would require me to practice a lot. And if anyone gets 10000 points in an Epee, ever, I will be very impressed.

I didn't really try to beat the ferret score in the confed gauntlet because of how fast the broadswords' shields regenerate, and how much their neutron turrets hurt... that one should be pretty doable too if you're a little lucky with the waves and good at dodging all the happy confed dumbfires.

The front page scoreboard updater can be somewhat deceptive because scores only register when they represent people outdoing their previous high scores. So if I got 1000 points one round, and then played fifty rounds and got in the 900s each time, it'd only show one front page entry.

Edit: Nevermind, read Kris' thing below.

The front page shows your most recent submission, even if it was lower than your personal highscore. To get a good mix of people, everyone gets only one spot on the list, even if they submit many scores with no interruption from other players.

Yeah. I took the Hornet high score a couple of days after the contest began. I figured that was the one Stern was going to have the toughest time beating. I also thought that since the craft was so far down the scoreboard list, no one would notice that I beat it until it was too late.

Yeah, I just didn't see it change very often. I figured this was how it behaves by seeing what it did while I was playing and submitting scores.
