Final Details Applied To Pioneer Bengal (March 20, 2008)

Howard Day has finished the final texture map for his Bengal class carrier, and it's come in at a trim 2048x2048 resolution. That's just a quarter of what his initial projections were for all the detail included. This should improve handling of the ship in WC Pioneer. Here's a shot of the basically complete mesh and wearing the final map. These are some screenshots of the final textures and everything coming together in Howard's modeling program.

I did a final texture test to see what scale texture this thing will need in game. I was worried that we'd need a 4096x4096 for all the detail to show though - but lucky me! There's just enough resolution for the the goodies to show up. Add in a detail texture for those really close-up situations, and I think we're golden. Here are some in-MAX shots of the mesh with the combined map on it.

Thanks, Kevin. I made the texture map in MAX and Photoshop, actually. xNormal was in no way involved. You may be referring to the UV layout - that's an automatic unwrap from Max. :D

What happened to the eerie red that was coming from the hangars inside the main landing bay? I thought that was one of the best details of the model...

You continue to impress!

Ah, they're mostly still there...the landing bays themselves are missing though - those are on a different texture sheet because all of the details are endlessly repeated - it'd be wasteful to put that in the main texture map.
